Student answer (Band 6.0)

Some people believe that the most important benefit of being rich is having the oppourtunity to help other people. I largely agree with this view because weath can provide financial security and more importantly, allow individuals to support people and communities in need.

On the one hand, one major advantage of being rich is that it gives people the ability to help other financially. Rich individuals can donate money to charities, support poor familes and contribute to important causes such as education and healthcare. For example, a wealthy may provide scholorship to pupils from low income families, allowing them to recieve good education and improve their future. In addition, wealthy people can support disaster relief programmes when floods, earthquakes or other natural disaster occur. Therefore, having sufficient money can enable people to make a meaningful difference in society.

On the other hand, i do not believe that helping others is only vital benefit of being rich. FInancial wealth can also provide a comforatable and secure lifestyle. Weathy people can afford better healthcare, quality education and comfortable housing for themselves and their families. Furthermore, having enough money can individuals greater freedom to pusue their interests, such as travelling, starting a new business or spending more time with their families. These personal benefits can also contribute significantly to a person quality of life.

In conclusion, I largely agree that one of the most important aspects of being rich is the oppourtunity to help others, particularly through charitable donations and community need. Nevertheless, wealth also offer perosnal security of living, which are equally important benfits

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

The response addresses all parts of the task and presents a clear position throughout. The student introduces a nuanced view, largely agreeing that helping others is a major benefit while also acknowledging other personal advantages of wealth, such as financial security and lifestyle benefits. Ideas are extended and supported with relevant examples, such as 'a wealthy may provide scholorship to pupils from low income families'. While the development is generally good, the arguments could be extended further to reach a higher band level. There are minor generalisations, but the task is fully addressed in line with the Band 7 descriptor.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The essay demonstrates a clear logical organisation and progression throughout. Information is coherently structured into an introduction, two body paragraphs presenting opposing views, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately. Cohesive devices are employed with reasonable flexibility, such as 'On the one hand', 'On the other hand', and 'Furthermore'. However, referencing and transitions are occasionally somewhat mechanical, and there are slight awkwardness in phrasing transitions, placing it firmly within the Band 7 range.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The writer uses a sufficient range of vocabulary for the task, allowing for some flexibility and precision (e.g., 'financial security', 'disaster relief programmes'). Less common items are attempted with some awareness of style and collocation, although there are a number of spelling and typographical errors throughout the text, including 'oppourtunity', 'weath', 'familes', 'scholorship', 'pupils', 'recieve', 'comforatable', 'Weathy', 'pueus', 'perosnal', and 'benfits'. These spelling errors and occasional word-choice inaccuracies prevent the essay from achieving a higher band, keeping it at a solid Band 6.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The student uses a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating a reasonable command of grammar (e.g., 'Rich individuals can donate money to charities, support poor familes and contribute to important causes...'). However, there are several grammatical errors and omissions, such as 'a wealthy may provide' (missing noun), 'can individuals greater freedom' (missing verb 'give' or 'provide'), and minor punctuation or article issues. These errors occur regularly but rarely impede communication, aligning well with the Band 6 descriptor.
