Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The response addresses the prompt by clearly stating a position agreeing with the idea that being rich provides an opportunity to help others. The writer extends ideas by mentioning various ways wealth can be utilised, such as donating to charitable trusts, funding hospitals, building schools, and creating job opportunities through new businesses. However, the development tends to be repetitive and somewhat list-like, relying on similar concepts (giving money to build schools and hospitals) without exploring deeper socio-economic arguments. While all parts of the task are addressed, the ideas are under-developed in terms of nuance and critical analysis. This places the response comfortably at Band 6.0 according to the criteria.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The essay displays a basic logical organisation with a clear introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. However, cohesion within and between sentences is frequently faulty and mechanical. There is a heavy reliance on repetitive transition markers and run-on sentences, such as starting multiple sentences with 'also money gives you' or stringing clauses together with commas rather than full stops. Paragraphing is attempted, but internal cohesion lacks smooth progression. Referencing and pronoun usage are sometimes unclear, as seen in the awkward transitions between ideas. These features reflect Band 5.0 descriptors, where organisation is present but cohesive devices are inadequate and repetitive.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is generally basic and repetitive, with numerous spelling and word-choice errors throughout the text, such as 'oppurtunity', 'needy and poors', 'facillitating', 'childr5en', 'styudy', 'oppuretunity', 'bussinesses', 'unemployeds', 'additionj', and 'coclusion'. The student attempts less common vocabulary (e.g., 'betterment and development', 'foundation for women'), but inaccurate formations and persistent spelling mistakes impede the overall lexical fluency. While the language is minimally adequate to convey the basic argument, the frequency of errors prevents it from reaching a higher band, making Band 5.0 the most accurate assessment.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The student attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, but the grammatical accuracy is notably weak. There are frequent basic errors, including subject-verb agreement issues ('many people believes'), lowercase pronoun usage ('i'), missing capitalisation, and major run-on sentences joined entirely by commas. Complex structures, when attempted, often contain structural flaws or punctuation breakdowns that cause difficulty for the reader. Although the meaning remains broadly understandable, the high frequency of grammatical and punctuation errors means the response falls short of Band 6.0, aligning best with the Band 5.0 descriptor for frequent errors in simple and complex forms.
