IELTS Writing Task 2 question
Some say that the most important thing about being rich is that one has the opportunity to help others. To what extent do you agree or disagree?
Student answer (Band 5.5)
It is believed that most crucial fact about being privileged is the prospect of helping the poor. I firmly agree that it is ought to be considered a public responsibility.
The first reason is that the availability of resources. For example, the wealthy community gets more benefits than the deprived ones, they enjoy every luxury of life in the most fruitful way, which other people are scared to even dream of. The underprivileged community makes it difficult to even fulfil their basic necessities of life. It is the duty of individuals to help everyone, despite of the fact that they have money or no and according to their pocket. Thus, they are required to assist those in need to gain the prayers and live a prosperous life
Another prominent example that can be described to explain this challenge is the class discrimination, which gives birth in the youth of today's generation. Due to this, the young minds will cause trouble to his parents to provide them with everything they desire of, without even noticing the struggle they have to face. That is why, it is necessary for the affluent sector to support the needy, so that they would not become a burden for their family.
In conclusion, it is clear that being privileged should not make you a proud and arrogant person, but a humble and generous one. Due to the above discussed factors, it is to be considered a public responsibility of individuals to aid the deprived sector in an efficient way, so that their self-respect does not get affected.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
The response addresses the prompt by expressing agreement with the idea that the primary benefit of wealth is helping others, presenting a clear position throughout. However, the development of ideas remains limited and under-developed. For instance, the first body paragraph mentions that the wealthy get more benefits and enjoy luxuries, but the transition to the duty of helping lacks logical depth. Similarly, the second body paragraph introduces a confusing argument about class discrimination causing young people to make unreasonable demands on their parents, which drifts away from the core topic of the social responsibilities of the wealthy. While all parts of the task are touched upon, the arguments lack thorough extension, meaning the response sits at a level where ideas are presented with insufficient supporting detail.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
There is a basic logical organisation to the essay, featuring an introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. However, the overall progression is occasionally hindered by abrupt transitions and unclear referencing. For example, starting the second sentence of the first body paragraph with "The first reason is that the availability of resources" results in a fragmented structure. Cohesive devices are sometimes used mechanically or inaccurately, such as the phrase "Another prominent example that can be described to explain this challenge is the class discrimination," which creates awkward connections between ideas. Paragraphing is attempted, but internal cohesion requires better linking to ensure a smoother flow of thought for the reader.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The vocabulary used is minimally adequate for the task, demonstrating an attempt to use less common items such as 'underprivileged', 'affluent sector', and 'public responsibility'. However, there are noticeable errors in word choice and collocation that affect precision. Phrases like 'most crucial fact about being privileged' and 'give birth in the youth' sound unnatural, and the sentence 'despite of the fact that they have money or no' contains clear lexical and structural inaccuracies. While communication is not entirely impeded, the vocabulary range remains limited, and recurring errors in word formation and phrasing prevent the writing from achieving a higher level of control.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The essay displays a limited range of grammatical structures, relying heavily on simple and faulty complex sentences. Frequent errors occur across verb forms, articles, and prepositions inside grammatical patterns. For instance, the second sentence contains a noticeable error: 'it is ought to be considered'. Other issues include missing articles ('the availability of resources' without establishing a clear noun phrase link) and faulty prepositional use, such as 'despite of the fact'. Complex sentence attempts frequently result in structural instability, and punctuation errors further impact clarity. These frequent errors cause some difficulty for the reader and reflect a grammar profile with persistent strain.
