IELTS Writing Task 2 question

Some say that the most important thing about being rich is that one has the opportunity to help others. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

Student answer (Band 5.0)

People have different views regarding being rich is a achievement of an individual to become a

supportive and generous personality. Whilst others argue that the if a person becomes wealthy they barely help people who are actually needy.

The primary reason why I support this view is that the some people are born with generational wealth therefore, they don not seek permission to help others when it is required. To put my major concern on this that is the person who really has enough money to support organisation such as childwelfare, orphans and many more NGO, although they do charity however people take advantage of such personality who put efforts to make them imporve.

On the other hand, opponents may claim that some individuals with powerful background often help poor people. Helping others does not mean you are always offerning some amount of them. Besides, they can offer some work in exchange of money so that would not feel they are asking for money only. Many individual does not rely upon the others instead of asking help they do hard work to earn self respect and they money they earn.

To conclude above context, some people does not reflect their image as they are asking for support as they believe into working hard therefore they can respectfully live in the envoirnment they want.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0

The response only partially addresses the task prompt regarding whether the most important thing about being rich is the opportunity to help others. The student presents a somewhat unclear position, with ideas remaining limited and under-developed. For instance, the discussion on generational wealth and supporting organizations lacks sufficient explanation to fully explore the prompt. Furthermore, the length requirement is not met, as the response contains only 223 words, falling short of the 250-word minimum.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

There is some organisation evident in the essay, with paragraphs used to separate main points, but there is no clear overall progression throughout the text. Cohesive devices are sometimes inadequate, inaccurate, or repetitive, such as the frequent reliance on transitional phrases like 'Whilst others argue' and 'To conclude above context'. Referencing is also not always clear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the logical development of ideas from one sentence to the next.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary range used is limited but minimally adequate for addressing the topic. There are noticeable errors in word choice, word form, and spelling, such as writing 'imporve' instead of improve, 'offerning' instead of offering, and 'envoirnment' instead of environment. These lexical inaccuracies and occasional odd collocations cause some difficulty for the reader, reflecting a restricted ability to express precise meanings.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The student uses a limited range of sentence structures, and attempts at complex sentences are often faulty. There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, including issues with verb forms, subject-verb agreement, and articles, such as 'being rich is a achievement' and 'the if a person becomes wealthy'. These frequent errors frequently impede smooth communication and cause difficulty for the reader in grasping the intended meaning.
