Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.0
The response fails to meet the minimum length requirement of 250 words, containing only 91 words and cutting off mid-sentence. Because the essay is severely underdeveloped and incomplete, the main parts of the task are only addressed in a minimal way. The writer attempts to state a position disagreeing with the prompt, mentioning that there are ways to help others besides providing financial assistance, but this idea is left completely unsupported and undeveloped due to the abrupt ending. To improve, the student must ensure they write a full essay that explores multiple well-developed arguments with supporting examples to thoroughly address all components of the writing prompt.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0
The text displays some basic organization, featuring an introduction and the start of a body paragraph, but there is no clear overall progression or development of a cohesive argument because the piece ends prematurely. Basic transitional phrasing is attempted with expressions like "Nowadays" and "The primary reason for this claim," but referencing and cohesive devices are limited and remain incomplete. Paragraphing is initiated with a two-paragraph structure, but the second paragraph breaks off mid-thought. To achieve better cohesion and progression, the writer needs to build complete paragraphs, ensure logical transitions connect fully formed ideas, and maintain a clear, continuous line of reasoning from the introduction through the body paragraphs to a proper conclusion.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
The vocabulary used is minimally adequate for the task, but it contains noticeable errors in spelling and word choice that reflect a limited range. For instance, the word "priviledged" is misspelled, and the phrase "financially priviledged individuals" could be expressed more naturally. The student also makes an awkward lexical choice with "needed one" instead of "those in need" or "needy individuals." These errors do not entirely impede basic communication, but they strain the reading experience. To reach a higher level, the writer must expand their vocabulary range, incorporate less common lexical items accurately, pay closer attention to precise word forms, and eliminate spelling mistakes.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The response shows a limited range of sentence structures, attempting some complex forms such as "I firmly disagree with the idea that only rich people could help others, and this essay will support..." However, there are grammatical inaccuracies present, such as the awkward dependent clause "this essay will support with relevant examples in upcoming paragraphs" where the verb "support" lacks an appropriate object. Punctuation and simple clause structures are generally handled adequately, but the frequent truncation of thought due to the short length limits the variety of structures displayed. To progress, the writer should practice forming more varied and complex sentences while ensuring greater grammatical precision and completeness.
