IELTS Writing Task 2 question
Some say that the most important thing about being rich is that one has the opportunity to help others. To what extent do you agree or disagree?
Student answer (Band 6.5)
Most people think that those with a fortune can have a chance to help those in need. Although those with limited resources do help others in their own capacity but I believe that wealth contributes a lot when it comes to giving a helping hand.
Those who believe that wealth isn't an only criteria that gives an opportinity to help others argue that sympathy and compassion should not be ignored while discussing this topic. A person with a big heart and limited resources can also help others with his own resources. For example, it doesn't costs a money to find a homeless and provide him with a space in your dormitory. Talking an elderly for a walk doesn't require you to be a rich.
Wealth, on the other hand, provides a number of different ways in helping others. The proponents of this notion, including myself, believe that owning a fortune could cater for your own needs and leaves a significant amount of wealth to be donated to a charity. A rich person doesn't need to worry about his own utilility bills, paychecks, expenses and household needs. Instead, he can always find someone in need and happily donate him some money to fulfill his needs. For example, he can pay for the scholarships of students who otherwise don't have means to support their education or donate to a charity organization running a vaccine drive in third world countries. Bill Gates, for example, pays for the Polio vaccine programs in Pakistan and helps in eradicating this virus from the world.
Conclusively, those with a fortune definitley have a better chance and avialable resources at their disposal in helping the needy and I agree to a great extent with wealth playing a crucial role when it comes to giving a helping hand.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
Your response addresses all parts of the task and maintains a clear position throughout, which is characteristic of this level. You present a well-developed argument, starting with a balanced view acknowledging the importance of compassion, before strongly defending the idea that wealth provides significantly greater opportunities to help others. Your ideas are extended and supported with relevant examples, such as mentioning the funding of vaccine drives. However, there is a slight tendency to overgeneralise in places, and some of the supporting points, like helping the homeless in a dormitory, could have been elaborated further to show deeper exploration of the prompt. Overall, you have fulfilled the requirements of the task effectively by presenting a well-reasoned and coherent viewpoint from start to finish.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
You demonstrate a clear logical organisation and progression throughout your essay, ensuring that the reader can easily follow your line of reasoning. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate different perspectives: the introduction, the opposing viewpoint, your main supportive arguments, and the conclusion. You use cohesive devices reasonably well to connect your ideas, such as 'Although', 'For example', and 'Wealth, on the other hand'. While the progression of ideas is logical and generally smooth, occasional referencing or transitional links feel slightly mechanical rather than entirely natural. Nevertheless, the overall arrangement is coherent and guides the reader seamlessly from your opening thesis to your final concluding stance.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary to communicate your ideas successfully, attempting less common lexical items such as 'compassion', 'proponents', and 'eradicating'. However, there are noticeable vocabulary choices and word formation inaccuracies that restrict your score, such as 'isn't an only criteria' instead of 'criterion', 'it doesn't costs a money', 'Talking an elderly' instead of 'Taking', and 'avialable' (spelling). You also rely on slightly repetitive phrasing when discussing financial support. While these errors do not seriously impede communication, improving your precision with collocations, word forms, and spelling will help elevate your lexical range to a higher standard.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You display a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing structures like concessive clauses and relative clauses effectively. There is a good attempt at incorporating varied sentence patterns to express nuanced ideas. However, your writing contains some errors in grammar and punctuation, such as article omissions ('doesn't costs a money', 'to find a homeless'), preposition misuse ('in helping others' vs 'to help others'), and subject-verb agreement slips. Fortunately, these errors rarely impede communication and the meaning remains clear throughout. To improve further, focus on tightening your control over articles, singular/plural noun agreements, and prepositions within complex grammatical patterns to ensure greater accuracy across all sentences.
