IELTS Writing Task 2 question

Some say that the most important thing about being rich is that one has the opportunity to help others. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

Student answer (Band 5.5)

The opportunity to assist others being wealthy is the most worthy action some people argue. In my opinion, that statement is completely true.

Being rich is one the greatest privillages a person can achieve in his life.

A person faces multiple challanges in life to reach the goal and achieve targets to become successful in business or getting job that person aims.

That person knows the real worth of support in hard time from someone that halped him in securing his goal. That support really matters after becoming rich to help other. Helping others gives true rewarding feeling once a person has got everything he wants.

But his does not limits to the rich community only. Every person who is able to assist someone in any case, he must take step forward to help. This can be of any kind. For instance, if a person needs some help in daily transport where one got his private vehicle, That person should invite the needy to use the vehicle in time of need. Similarly there can be any kind of support that one can do for others, Help is not limited to financial support only or rich people are not the only one who must assist needy one. It is universal that if you find someone in need and you are previlliged with enough resources then you must step ahead to help.

In conclusion, I largely agree that one of the most importat thing being a wealthy person is to assist needy one. at the same time it is not limited to rich only. Everyone must play its role in helping others.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

Your position is clear from the opening: you completely agree that helping others is important for wealthy people. You also address the broader implication that assistance is not exclusive to the rich, using the example of sharing a vehicle. These are relevant ideas, and the conclusion restates your view. However, the central claim about why helping others is the most important aspect of wealth is not fully explored: the points about overcoming challenges and feeling rewarded are asserted rather than explained or illustrated. The vehicle example supports your point about everyone’s responsibility, but it does less to develop the specific relationship between wealth and helping others. Develop each main reason with a clearer explanation or a more precise example.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable overall structure: an introduction, a paragraph about wealth and support, a paragraph broadening the argument to everyone, and a conclusion. The contrast signalled by “But” helps introduce the second point, and “For instance” appropriately leads into an example. However, progression within the first body paragraph is difficult to follow: the discussion moves from achieving success to receiving support and then to the reward of helping, without clearly showing how these points connect. Some references, such as “That person” and “This,” are not always precise, and the conclusion repeats earlier ideas rather than drawing them together. Use clearer topic sentences and link each explanation directly to the paragraph’s main claim.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “support,” “successful,” “resources,” and “needy,” and you attempt phrases such as “true rewarding feeling.” However, the range is limited and several word-choice, collocation, and spelling errors make the writing less natural. Examples include “the most worthy action,” “help in hard time,” and “assist needy one”; these expressions are understandable but not idiomatic or consistently precise. Spelling errors such as “privillages,” “challanges,” and “previlliged” are also noticeable. Build a bank of accurate phrases for discussing wealth and social responsibility, and check spelling carefully. More precise, natural collocations would make your argument easier to read.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including a conditional structure in “if you find someone in need and you are previlliged with enough resources then you must step ahead to help.” However, control is inconsistent, and errors in agreement, verb forms, articles, and sentence construction sometimes make the reader pause. For example, “This does not limits” has incorrect verb agreement, while “Every person … he must take step forward” has problems with the article and sentence structure. The opening phrase, “The opportunity to assist others being wealthy,” is also awkwardly constructed. Practise building accurate sentences around one main clause, then add subordinate clauses, and check subject–verb agreement and articles during proofreading.
