IELTS Writing Task 2 question

Some say that the most important thing about being rich is that one has the opportunity to help others. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

Student answer (Band 5.5)

Being a rich person has great powers. A significant number of individuals say that wealthy people have resposibility to help poor people. Consequently, I strongly agree that opinion being rich have more power to help needed people, although sometimes helping poor people does not have great rewards.

To begin with this point of view, rich persons have more chance to volunteer to help lower-income people. As said that, great power comes great responsibility. Therefore, people who have extra money to spend for their luxuries, they can easily fulfil other dreams. For example, the inflamation rate is extremly high all over the world and people did not afford a simple food. As a result, helping others is the first priority of wealthy person.

As far as I am concerned, this statement is undenibly true. Due the fact, poor people can live peacfully. Employment rate is high with the help of well known persons. Moreover, being a rich person, you can also facilitate people in several ways. For example, labours can work as drivers, guard and other numerous departments. Furthermore, many student can also take advantages from them to work in their pace. In contradict, sometimes helping others make things hectic and stressfull, because you have to be responsible for that.

In Conclusion, although being rich is a crucial thing. Nevertheless, power to helping others is an integral part of being rich. Although, things becomes difficult and awful sometimes. Despite that, I am extremly concerned that being a rich person, you should have to be helpful to others.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You give a clear overall position: you strongly agree that wealth creates an opportunity and responsibility to help others. The examples of employing people and supporting students are relevant to the topic. However, the response only partly develops the question’s focus on whether helping others is the most important aspect of being rich. Much of the discussion explains ways wealthy people can help, while the counterpoint that helping can be stressful is mentioned briefly and not explored. The claim about high inflation and people lacking food is also unclear as written. To strengthen the response, explain why helping others matters more than other benefits of wealth, and develop the qualification with a specific reason or example.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, two body paragraphs and a conclusion, and signposts such as “To begin with” and “Moreover” help indicate additions. However, progression within paragraphs is sometimes difficult to follow: the move from inflation and food insecurity to wealthy people’s priority is not clearly explained, and the second body paragraph shifts quickly from peaceful living to employment and then stress. Some linking phrases are awkward or do not express the intended relationship, including “In contradict” and the repeated use of “Although” in the conclusion. Organise each paragraph around one main point, connect examples explicitly to that point, and use fewer, more accurate transitions.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You attempt topic-related vocabulary, including “lower-income people,” “volunteer,” “employment rate,” and “responsible,” and you use some less common expressions. However, the range is limited by repeated general words such as “help,” “people,” and “rich,” while several inaccurate choices or spellings make meaning less clear. For example, “inflamation rate” does not convey the likely intended idea, and “work in their pace” is unclear. There are also spelling errors such as “resposibility,” “extremly,” and “peacfully.” Build a more precise set of terms for charitable support, employment, and social impact, and check spelling and collocations so your intended meaning is immediately clear.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, using clauses introduced by “although,” “because,” and “as a result.” However, complex structures are often faulty, and errors occur frequently enough to make some sentences difficult to interpret. For example, “people who have extra money to spend for their luxuries, they can easily fulfil other dreams” has a duplicated subject and an unclear clause structure. “Due the fact, poor people can live peacfully” is incomplete, while “many student can also take advantages” shows problems with number and verb patterns. Practise building complete sentences with one clear subject and verb, and check articles, agreement, plurals, and clause connections before adding more complex structures.
