IELTS Writing Task 2 question
Some say that the most important thing about being rich is that one has the opportunity to help others. To what extent do you agree or disagree?
Student answer (Band 5.5)
The most significant thing about being rich is that one who has a chance to help others. I agree with this statement because in this way, money moved in different hands and this act lead to strengthen the economy of a country.
By helping others will give a chance to move money in different hands. Reason for this is, if a rich person help needy people then it will improve their livings and they get a chance to sustain in their lives. In this way, they will grow and do something good for their family and for their own country. By this, money will not be occupied in certain hands instead it will spread all over the region and all get benefits from it. Not only this, if they will achieve same status of rich people then there will be high probability that they will further help others and in this way, a chain of good people create which will create growing environment in a country. ,
Secondly, by doing this kind act, it will help in boosting the economy of a county. As if needy people get full support from their rich neighbors then they will become physically strong and also it give confidence to poor by getting inspiration from their elite class. In this way, every person in that region or country do something for their country and this will definitely help in maintaining the economy. Along with this, foreign people will also attract by the purpose of doing some projects in this supporting environment which further help in standing the economy.
In conclusion, most important thing for a rich person is if he get opportunity to help others. This lead to some great benefits like it spread the money in common people instead of capture in certain hands. Along with it, it create the condition of normal people better will be helpful for their country by strengthening their economy.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
Your position is clear: you agree that helping others is the most important opportunity wealth provides. You support this with two relevant lines of reasoning—sharing wealth can improve poorer people’s lives, and their contribution may strengthen the economy. The explanation that assistance could lead recipients to help others in turn also extends your argument. This meets the task well, though some points are less fully developed than others: for example, the claim that foreign people will be attracted to invest is introduced without explaining how this follows from local support. To strengthen the response further, develop each main claim with a specific example or clearer cause-and-effect reasoning, and make the extent of your agreement explicit in the conclusion.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a recognisable overall structure: an introduction, two body paragraphs presenting separate reasons, and a conclusion that returns to your position. Linking expressions such as “Secondly,” “In this way,” and “Along with this” help signal relationships between ideas. However, cohesion is sometimes mechanical because similar transitions recur, and some references are unclear—for instance, “By this” does not always identify precisely which action or result you mean. The sentence beginning “As if needy people…” also makes the connection between support, confidence, and economic growth difficult to follow. Use fewer repeated linkers, connect each explanation directly to its main point, and check that each paragraph develops in a clear sequence.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “economy,” “sustain,” “benefits,” and “inspiration,” and the reader can generally understand your intended argument. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are noticeably unnatural, which sometimes makes the meaning less precise. Examples include “money moved in different hands,” “improve their livings,” “a chain of good people create,” and “standing the economy.” Some words are also repeated, particularly “help,” “country,” and “in this way.” Build a more precise range of phrases for discussing wealth distribution and economic effects, and learn common word partnerships rather than translating expressions directly. This would make your ideas clearer and more natural.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including conditional structures such as “if a rich person help needy people” and clauses explaining possible results. However, complex constructions are often faulty, and errors in verb forms, agreement, articles, and sentence structure sometimes make the reader work to understand the point. For example, “By helping others will give a chance” lacks a clear grammatical subject, while “it will improve their livings” and “every person … do something” show problems with form or agreement. The conclusion also contains several clauses joined without clear grammatical control. Practise building accurate sentences with “if” clauses and “by” phrases, then check subject–verb agreement and whether each sentence has a complete main clause.
