IELTS Writing Task 2 question

Some say that the most important thing about being rich is that one has the opportunity to help others. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

Student answer (Band 6.0)

Some people believe that the most significant thing about being wealthy is one has desire to help others. I completely agree with this thought because after getting rich it becomes our moral responsibility to help the needy people.

The rich people must definitely try to help the persons who are facing tough circumstances in their life because wealthy people have the ability to change someone's life completely. For example if a financially independent person find someone who is homeless and have nowhere to live can be helped and his life could be evolved significantly. This also develop the social responsibility and moral values in community.

The other reason for helping needy people is that by helping them we cam make them a useful asset of society so they can serve it in better ways because these act can change a whole locality. For example if there is a person or child who is not able to go to school and someone take the responsibility of his complete education this step can make a huge change in child's life. After completing his education he will definitely become successful in his life and be able to help others as someone helped him In his childhood. These guestuers can help in the growth of moral values of any culture or society.

To conclude i strongly agree that if a rich one has the opportunity to help needy people he should definitely do it . Wealthy people are very important part of any society they can play critical role to develop the moral values and for the well being of a community.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

Your position is clear from the introduction—“I completely agree”—and remains consistent in the conclusion. You address the central idea by explaining that wealth gives people the means to improve others’ lives, then support this with examples involving housing and education. These examples are relevant, and the education example shows how assistance may benefit the wider community over time. However, some points are asserted rather than fully explained: for instance, the claim that helping people makes them “a useful asset of society” could be developed by showing more specifically how their education or stability enables them to contribute. The response covers the task well overall, but fuller explanation and more precise links between examples and your argument would strengthen it further.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The essay has a clear overall structure: an introduction states your view, two body paragraphs present reasons and examples, and a conclusion restates your position. The progression from direct help with basic needs to education and longer-term social benefits is logical. You also use signposting such as “For example,” “The other reason,” and “To conclude” to guide the reader. At times, however, these links feel mechanical, and some references are unclear. In “these act can change a whole locality,” it is not immediately clear which actions you mean; “These gestures” later also needs a clearer connection to the preceding example. Use more varied transitions and make pronouns and references explicit to improve cohesion.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “financially independent,” “social responsibility,” “moral values,” and “well-being,” and your meaning is generally understandable. There are also attempts to express broader social effects, such as “the growth of moral values” and “the well being of a community.” However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, which limits precision: “one has desire to help,” “his life could be evolved,” and “useful asset of society” do not express your ideas naturally. Spelling errors such as “cam” and “guestuers” also detract from control. Build a more reliable range of collocations and check spelling and word forms; this will make your argument clearer and more fluent.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and complex sentences, including conditional structures such as “if someone take the responsibility of his complete education” and a relative clause in “a person or child who is not able to go to school.” This gives the essay some structural variety, and the main ideas can usually be followed. However, errors in agreement, articles, verb forms, and punctuation recur. For example, “a financially independent person find” should use a singular verb, while “these act can change” requires a plural noun and verb agreement. The long sentence beginning “For example if” also needs clearer punctuation and more controlled clause structure. Review subject–verb agreement and article use, and divide long sentences where needed to improve accuracy.
