IELTS Writing Task 2 question
Some say that the most important thing about being rich is that one has the opportunity to help others. To what extent do you agree or disagree?
Student answer (Band 5.5)
Some argue that the most significant thing about being rich is that one has the opportunity to aid the needed. I partly agree with the statement because helping others is good deed and everyone should do it, but it's the choice of a person to either help or not.
To begin with, helping others give a person the most satisfaction. The humanity teaches that helping the needy is the thing that every individual should do. Because a person with higher privelages have all the resources that a person with no privelages lack. So sharing the resources and helping out with certain things can improve someone's life a lot. For instance, People in africa strugles with pure drinking water and it led to rise in diseases. So providing them pure drinking water facilities by the privelages will be beneficial for them. donating financially or by any other mean is the most human thing anyone can do.
Furthermore, donating is an independent decision of a person. It is not necessary for every rich person to help others everytime rather than creating wealth for themselfs and upcoming generations. While many
re-invest the money earned on their future than donating the money. In addition, many people are habbited towards receiving free money rather than working hard to earn money by themself. So a wealthy individuals hard earn money should not always be donated, it should be a personal choice of an individual.
In conclusion, People thinks that most important thing about being rich that person has the ability to help others. I partly agree with the statement as donating to the needy is best thing a human can do, but it should be a choice of individual rather forcing a person to donate.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
Your position is clear: you partly agree, supporting the value of helping people while arguing that giving should remain a personal choice. Both sides of the question are addressed, and the example of providing clean drinking water in Africa makes the benefit of wealth concrete. However, some ideas are less fully developed than others. The claim that helping brings “the most satisfaction” is asserted rather than explained, and the point about people becoming accustomed to receiving free money needs clearer support and a more direct link to the question of what matters most about being rich. Develop these points with specific reasoning and keep the distinction between wealth’s opportunity to help and an obligation to help explicit.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, two body paragraphs presenting different aspects of your view, and a conclusion that restates your position. Sequencing phrases such as “To begin with” and “Furthermore” help signal the main points. However, progression within paragraphs is sometimes difficult to follow: the discussion moves from satisfaction to humanity, resources, and the water example without clearly connecting each step. The sentence beginning “Because a person…” is also left as a fragment, interrupting the flow. Some linking is mechanical, and references such as “them” and “it” could be clearer. Use topic sentences that state each paragraph’s central claim, then connect examples explicitly to that claim.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “resources,” “re-invest,” “wealth,” and “donating,” and the reader can generally understand your intended meaning. However, the range is limited and several word-choice, collocation, and spelling problems reduce precision. For example, “aid the needed” is not a natural expression, while “pure drinking water” and “hard earn money” are awkward or inaccurate combinations. Spelling errors such as “privelages,” “strugles,” and “habbited” are noticeable. Aim to learn common word partnerships and check spelling carefully; varying repeated terms such as “helping” and “donating” would also make the argument more precise and fluent.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including clauses introduced by “because,” “while,” and “rather than.” Meaning is usually recoverable, but errors in agreement, sentence construction, articles, and plurals are frequent enough to make some sentences awkward. For example, “helping others give a person” needs subject–verb agreement, and “Because a person with higher privelages…” is an incomplete sentence. In “a wealthy individuals hard earn money,” the noun phrase does not agree, and the final sentence has a missing article and an unclear structure. Practise building complete sentences around one main clause, then check subject–verb agreement and article use. More accurate control of these patterns would make your reasoning easier to follow.
