IELTS Writing Task 2 question

Some say that the most important thing about being rich is that one has the opportunity to help others. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

Student answer (Band 5.0)

Few individuals said that most essential thing about being wealthy is that people has the chance to support others. I partially believe that to assist others is important thing to become a wealthy person.

Helping someone is a very good thing as a human being. Because if we support without any purpose then god will also helps us in future. In my country, many people belong to poor families and survive through thick and thin conditions. That individual always stay in stress and think about their family and at that time if some one helps them it could be beneficial for both. When a wealthy person support to poor family then it saw by god and god gives them more which could be beneficial for healthy person and more poor families. Because if god gives more to them then they help more individuals and it will helpful for them to make their conditions good.

Sometimes it is not necessary to help someone to being a rich. Wealthy person wants to help others but he helps to someone for his purpose. Like he want to do a work from somone and in return they help them. And sometimes help is not reason to become good and rich person because if one can do hardwork in their life then individual achieve success definitely.

In conclusion, help to others is a good way of people to improve their family conditions and life. But one cannot support to someone for his own purpose because it will not considered as help it considered as to do work from someone in return of help.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You give a partly clear position: you value helping others, but also argue that wealth can come from hard work and that some assistance is self-interested. These points are relevant to the question. However, the response only partially develops the issue of whether helping others is the most important benefit of being rich. Much of the first body paragraph focuses on divine reward and helping poor families, rather than explaining why the opportunity to help is more or less important than other aspects of wealth. The conclusion repeats the idea of helping but does not clearly restate your degree of agreement. To strengthen the response, state your position precisely and develop each reason with a clear explanation or example tied directly to the question.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has an introduction, two body paragraphs and a conclusion, and the contrast introduced by “Sometimes” helps signal a change in viewpoint. The main ideas are generally identifiable, but progression within paragraphs is sometimes difficult to follow. For example, the first body paragraph moves from helping without purpose to God rewarding the wealthy, then to improving poor families’ conditions, with the links between these claims not always clear. Connectors such as “Because” are also used to begin standalone sentences, and “And sometimes” makes the transition feel repetitive. Organise each paragraph around one main reason, then explain it in a clear sequence. More precise referencing and a conclusion that directly summarises your position would make the overall argument easier to follow.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant vocabulary, including “wealthy,” “support,” “poor families,” “purpose” and “achieve success,” so the reader can understand the general topic and your main ideas. However, the range is limited and several phrases are repeated, particularly “help,” “help others” and “beneficial.” Some word choices or collocations are unclear or unnatural, such as “healthy person” for a wealthy person and “do a work from someone.” These choices can make the intended meaning harder to interpret. Build a more varied set of expressions for assistance, wealth and motivation, and check that each phrase fits its context. For instance, distinguish between helping someone freely and providing assistance in exchange for a service.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and longer sentences, including conditional structures such as “if one can do hardwork in their life then individual achieve success.” However, complex sentences are often faulty, and frequent errors in agreement, verb forms, articles and sentence boundaries sometimes make the meaning difficult to follow. Examples include “people has,” “god will also helps,” and “a wealthy person support”; these subjects require matching verb forms. There are also incomplete or awkwardly joined sentences, such as “Because if we support without any purpose then god will also helps us in future.” Practise forming accurate simple sentences first, then combine them using subordinate clauses. Pay particular attention to subject–verb agreement and punctuation around dependent clauses.
