IELTS Writing Task 2 question
Some say that the most important thing about being rich is that one has the opportunity to help others. To what extent do you agree or disagree?
Student answer (Band 5.5)
In my opinion being rich provides a person with the opportunity to help others. A person with excess money can give some of its money to charity without having any financial issues. If we compare between a normal average income person with a rich one a normal averhge income person has a lot of financial things to handle in its daily life it is difficult for him to give an amount of money in charity regularly or even seldomly, but in the case of rich people they have a lot of money with less financial issues in its daily life and has a lot to give to the needy and poor ones. A kindhearted rich person can have a lot from this opportunity. If we talk othe rthen charity rich people have other ways to help others as well fro example they can provide them with the job opportunities with thier connections, they can solve thier daily life issues with the help of thier authorities and they can even work for the welfare of society which is indirectly helping poor as a healthy society is the one with good and prosperous human beings. These small steps of rich or elite class can lead to build a chain of such people which are always ready to work for the collective benifits of each other, which may help build a good and healthy society which exels both economically as well as morally

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
Your position is clear: you agree that wealth matters because it gives people more ways to help, especially through donations, employment, and community welfare. These examples are relevant to the question. However, the response addresses the task only partially because it mainly explains how rich people can help, rather than examining whether this is the most important aspect of being rich. The comparison with an average-income person is also broad and not supported with a specific example. The final idea about building a healthier society is promising but needs explanation. The response is 239 words, below the required 250. Develop your position by considering another benefit of wealth and explaining why helping others is more important, or not, in comparison.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The ideas are generally related and there is a discernible progression from donating money to offering jobs and supporting society. Phrases such as “If we compare” and “If we talk” signal shifts in focus. However, the response is presented as one long paragraph, and several ideas run together, making the overall progression difficult to follow. The comparison sentence is especially lengthy, while the transition from charity to other forms of help is abrupt. Some linking is repetitive, with repeated use of “and” and “which.” Organise the response into an introduction, separate body paragraphs for financial and non-financial help, and a conclusion. Use clearer references and a wider range of linking expressions so the relationships between claims are easier to follow.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “charity,” “job opportunities,” “welfare of society,” and “collective benefits.” These choices help communicate your main ideas, and “prosperous” and “morally” show some attempt to use more precise language. However, the range is limited by repeated general words such as “help,” “money,” and “people,” and several word-choice, spelling, or collocation errors are noticeable: “seldomly,” “thier,” “benifits,” and “exels.” Phrases such as “financial things to handle” and “a lot to give” are also imprecise. Aim for more natural academic collocations and check spelling carefully; this will make your meaning clearer and your vocabulary more effective.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt to express complex relationships, particularly in the long comparison beginning “If we compare,” and the sentence about how a healthy society can benefit people. However, these extended structures are often faulty, and the response relies heavily on long sentences joined with “and” or commas. There are frequent problems with agreement and sentence construction, as in “a rich one … has” and “they … has,” as well as unclear pronoun reference in “its daily life.” Punctuation is also weak, especially where clauses are run together. These errors sometimes make the reader work to understand the relationships between ideas. Use shorter, controlled sentences alongside complex ones, and check subject–verb agreement and pronoun references.
