IELTS Writing Task 2 question
Some say that the most important thing about being rich is that one has the opportunity to help others. To what extent do you agree or disagree?
Student answer (Band 5.0)
In my opinion, Being rich has it's own benefits. One can help the other person without worrying about the money, They can buy anything for themselves, for there family and still be able to help others at the time of need. I think it is very beneficial for rich people to spend on someone in need, helping someone will also give a sense of satisfaction and it'll also add barakah in your money. So, It can be used to help other people as well. Helping someone with good intention can benefit you in many ways. You'll find peace, consistency in your money and also you'll never worry about money because it'll come to you in different ways, you wouldn't even imagine. Furthermore, The more you spend with good intention the more you get, It always comes back to you. But if you think spending on someone with the intention of getting more in return can never benefit you. You'll lose your money and good deeds as well, your intention matters in this situation. Some people do spend on others and think that they've done some kind of favor for them and treat them like garbage. They spend money to help people to show themselves as a kind hearted person who shows care and goodness to others, but in reality they find poor people unappreciative and think they're wasting money on them. Additonally, spending extra money on someone can also make them ungrateful so we've to find balance between how much we spend in helping poor poeple.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You take a position that helping others is an important benefit of wealth, and you develop relevant points about financial security, personal satisfaction, and the importance of intention. The discussion of people who give in order to appear generous adds a useful qualification. However, the prompt asks whether this is the most important thing about being rich, and your response does not clearly compare helping others with other possible benefits or explain why it is more important. Several claims, such as money returning through good intentions, are asserted rather than supported, while the final point about making recipients ungrateful is not fully explained. State your degree of agreement directly and develop a clearer reasoned argument around it.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
The response contains a sequence of related ideas, and linking expressions such as “Furthermore,” “But,” and “Additionally” show an attempt to connect them. However, the writing is presented as one continuous paragraph, so the reader cannot easily distinguish the main argument, qualification, and conclusion. Progression is also limited: ideas about satisfaction, spiritual reward, intention, and recipients’ gratitude are added one after another without a clear hierarchy. Some connections are unclear, particularly the shift from helping others to the claim that spending can make them ungrateful. Use separate paragraphs for your position, supporting reasons, and qualification, and make each paragraph develop one central point with clear references and transitions.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use enough vocabulary to communicate the general topic, including phrases such as “sense of satisfaction,” “good intention,” and “kind hearted person.” There are also attempts to express more specific ideas about generosity and motivation. However, the range is limited by repeated everyday wording, especially “help,” “spend,” “money,” and “people,” and some expressions are imprecise or unnatural, such as “consistency in your money” and “spend on someone.” Spelling errors, including “Additonally” and “poeple,” also reduce accuracy. Build a more precise range for discussing wealth and charitable giving, and check spelling and collocations so that your meaning is expressed naturally.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt some longer sentences and use clauses with “because,” “if,” and “who,” which shows an effort to go beyond simple sentence patterns. However, control is inconsistent, and several sentences join multiple independent ideas with commas, as in “They can buy anything for themselves … and still be able to help others.” There are also errors in apostrophe use and sentence boundaries: “it's” should be “its,” and capital letters appear after commas in “money, They” and “So, It.” The final sentence, “we've to find balance,” is also not formed naturally. Use full stops or semicolons to separate complete ideas, and practise accurate possessives, articles, and modal constructions.
