IELTS Writing Task 2 question
Some say that the most important thing about being rich is that one has the opportunity to help others. To what extent do you agree or disagree?
Student answer (Band 5.5)
Humanbeings are social animal. We need each others help to grow and prosper. In a world where money has became the most important thing. Some people believes that if we were rich we can help others. I disagree with this statement as helped is not only done by money. It can be happened in many ways.
In a current situation where financial inflation is high everywhere, people are in stress to meet their own needs. And if someone ask for help they think that if i was rich i would have opportunity to help. But sometimes a person for example a student living alone in new country gets ill, so by just sending comforting food for recovery is a big help for him, guiding a tourist towards right direction or helping him exploring new areas can be done without money or simply sharing your experience and business ideas to an enterpreneur can help him alot.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You take a clear position by disagreeing that helping others is the most important benefit of being rich, and your examples show that support can also be practical or emotional. The student who is ill, the tourist needing directions, and the entrepreneur receiving advice are relevant illustrations. However, the response addresses the question only partially: it explains that help does not always require money, but does not fully discuss whether the opportunity to help others is the most important thing about being rich, or compare it with other benefits. The ideas are also brief and under-developed. The response is 155 words, below the required 250, so it cannot develop its argument sufficiently. Extend the position with reasons and examples, and address the wording of the question directly.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a basic overall shape: an opening states your position, followed by a paragraph of examples. The examples are generally related to the central point, so the reader can follow the main message. However, there is little progression beyond the initial claim, and the response ends without a concluding paragraph that restates or qualifies your view. Some connections are awkward or unclear, particularly the shift from financial inflation to the examples, and beginning a sentence with “And if someone ask for help” leaves the relationship between ideas under-explained. Use clearer topic sentences and linking phrases to show how each example supports your argument, then add a conclusion. Paragraphing and cohesion are present but remain limited.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use enough vocabulary to communicate the main idea and provide relevant examples, including “financial inflation,” “comforting food,” and “business ideas.” There is some variety in the ways you describe helping, rather than relying on a single repeated term. However, the range is limited, and several word choices or forms are inaccurate or unnatural, such as “social animal,” “gets ill,” “helped,” and “alot.” These errors are noticeable and occasionally make the intended meaning less smooth, although the overall message remains understandable. Aim for more precise expressions such as “social beings,” “becomes ill,” and “assistance,” and check spelling and collocations. Developing the essay with more specific discussion would also give you opportunities to use a broader range of topic vocabulary.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both short statements and longer sentences with examples, showing some effort to connect ideas in more complex structures. The main meaning is usually recoverable, but the range of structures is limited and errors occur frequently. For example, “Humanbeings are social animal” has problems with spacing, number, and the article; “money has became” uses an incorrect verb form; and “Some people believes” has subject–verb disagreement. The sentence beginning “In a world where money has became…” is also a fragment, while “if i was rich i would have opportunity” needs more accurate conditional and article use. Practise building complete sentences and checking agreement, verb forms, articles, and punctuation before submitting.
