IELTS Writing Task 2 question

Some say that the most important thing about being rich is that one has the opportunity to help others. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

Student answer (Band 5.0)

Few people think that, wealthy people have an opportunity to help needy people. I agree as much as disagree with the abone notion. So, in the forthcoming paragraphs, I have supported my stand with the reasonable justifications.

Taking into account the agreement side, financially strong individuals have an many opportunities to help other people. Such as, they can donate money to charities, provide financial support to those people, who are suffering from difficulties like lack of wealth for education. Wealthy people can invest money on people, who really want to study but not capable to pay soaring fees in this modern era. As a result, wealthy people can donate money on appropriate reasons for needy people.

Moreover, rich people have potential for donate their money to fullfil other peoples' requirement on daily base. Rich people are pretty sure to invest money on things other than only enjoying themselves. Some people on their special days for instance, birthday, anniversery or job promotions, can donate their money for happiness.

Taking into account the disagreement side, not all wealthy people are agreed to give their money for needy individuals. They think that, helping those people cannot motivate them to doing hard work , also they become very lazy to work for bread and butter. May be they depends on us in any harsh condition too.

However, few rich people do not think that, helping other people in financial term can lead to good impression among the group of people.

To conclude, rich people can potential to donate money on others, who truely need help in financial terms. Also, they have few opportunities in which they can invest their money in approriate ways. On the other hand, not all people can think to donate money on others because they become dependent on us.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

Your response addresses both agreement and disagreement, and the conclusion restates a broadly balanced position. The examples of donating to charities and supporting students who cannot afford fees are relevant to how wealth can help others. However, the position is not clearly defined: “I agree as much as disagree” does not explain the extent of your agreement, and the discussion does not establish which side is more convincing. Several points remain under-developed, particularly the claim that helping people makes them lazy and the brief reference to gaining a good impression. Explain these ideas and connect them directly to whether helping others is the most important benefit of being rich.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, separate paragraphs for supporting and opposing views, and a conclusion. Linking phrases such as “Moreover,” “Taking into account the disagreement side,” and “To conclude” help signal the stages of the argument. However, progression within paragraphs is sometimes repetitive: the first two body paragraphs both mainly repeat that rich people can donate money. Some transitions feel mechanical, and the paragraph beginning “However” introduces a point about making a good impression without clearly linking it to the preceding argument. Organise each paragraph around one distinct reason, then explain and illustrate it, using clearer references between ideas.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant topic vocabulary, including “charities,” “financial support,” “soaring fees,” and “dependent,” which helps communicate the subject. There are also attempts at more formal phrasing, such as “Taking into account.” However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate or repetitive, sometimes making the meaning less clear. Examples include “invest money on people,” “donate money on appropriate reasons,” and “fullfil other peoples' requirement.” Spelling errors such as “abone,” “truely,” and “approriate” also affect accuracy. Build a more precise set of expressions for giving assistance, and check spelling and natural word combinations when editing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including clauses beginning with “who” and “because,” and the overall meaning is usually recoverable. However, control is inconsistent, and errors occur frequently in sentence construction, verb forms, agreement, articles, and punctuation. For example, “they can invest money on people, who really want to study but not capable to pay” lacks a correctly formed clause, while “not all wealthy people are agreed” uses an incorrect verb pattern. “Rich people have potential for donate” also shows difficulty with infinitive forms. Commas are often placed after introductory phrases or before clauses where they are not needed. Practise accurate basic sentence patterns before adding subordinate clauses.
