IELTS Writing Task 2 question
Some say that the most important thing about being rich is that one has the opportunity to help others. To what extent do you agree or disagree?
Student answer (Band 5.5)
Yes , the discussion about to help needy people ,being a wealthy person , is common. And everyone in the society expect from them that they should help poor people.
Well ,this is an important thing . But i do not think so that it should be their main purpose. Because they have earned it from very hard work . They spent a lot of time to reach that particular point , so they should enjoy life as well and should spend on his own. This will motivate them to achieve more in life and they will keep on to work more hard . But if we think that we have only purpose in our life to help peoples that does not give us any motivation and eventually we stuck at same point .
They shlould spent on their children , on their family and on their parents . Because the parents are the human being who gave us anything we wanted . So when they are not able to take care of theirselves then it is our moral responsiblity to takr care of them. And the children are of your next genration. You should spend as much as you can on them : on their better health, education and the luxry of life.
To conclude , in my opinion , being a wealthy person you should also help people but it is not the goal of your life . You have lot more things to do . which might work for society for your future and for your life after death .

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
Your position is clear: you agree that helping others matters, but disagree that it should be a wealthy person’s main purpose. You address the question with relevant reasons, including enjoying the rewards of hard work and supporting children, parents, and family. The family-responsibility paragraph gives a concrete explanation, especially the point about caring for parents who can no longer look after themselves. However, the discussion of helping people in need is not developed as fully as the reasons for spending on family, and the claim that helping others provides no motivation is asserted rather than supported. To strengthen the response, explain what meaningful help wealthy people can provide and why it should be balanced with personal and family priorities.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a coherent overall arrangement: an introduction, a paragraph explaining why wealth should also benefit the owner, a paragraph about family responsibilities, and a conclusion. The progression from personal enjoyment to family support is easy to follow, and phrases such as “But” and “To conclude” signal the direction of the argument. Some linking is mechanical or unclear, however. Repeated use of “Because” to begin explanations makes the reasoning feel list-like, while “which might work for society for your future” does not clearly connect to the preceding point. Improve cohesion by linking each reason explicitly to your central position and using clearer references, rather than relying on repeated basic connectors.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use enough vocabulary to communicate the main argument, including relevant terms such as “moral responsibility,” “education,” and “motivate.” However, the range is limited and several noticeable word-choice, spelling, and collocation errors make parts less natural: “help needy people,” “spend on his own,” “work more hard,” and “luxry of life.” There are also misspellings such as “responsiblity” and “genration.” These do not prevent the reader from understanding the overall message, but they reduce precision and sometimes require extra effort. Build a more accurate range for discussing wealth and social responsibility, and check spelling and common word combinations carefully.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, for example the conditional idea beginning “But if we think…” and the explanation of caring for parents. The main meaning is generally understandable, but errors in sentence formation and control occur across the response. Examples include “everyone in the society expect,” where the subject and verb do not agree, and “we stuck at same point,” which is missing a verb form and an article. The sentence beginning “To conclude” also contains a fragment: “which might work for society…” Some punctuation and capitalisation are inconsistent. Practise accurate subject–verb agreement, complete sentence structures, and articles, then proofread longer sentences to ensure each clause is grammatically complete.
