IELTS Writing Task 2 question
Some say that the most important thing about being rich is that one has the opportunity to help others. To what extent do you agree or disagree?
Student answer (Band 6.5)
It is argued that the one who is rich can have the opportunity to help others. I completely agree with this view because they have enough money which they can contribute to their society and to other nations who are in need also.
One of the main important reason why I agree with this is they can contribute to their society. It is because, when people are financially strong they can make parks, hospitals, supermarket buildings in the area they live. Consequently, helping by making essential buildings in their society can improve the quality of life.. In addition, this also helps to develop strong bond with their neighbour. For instance, the richest man of Nepal, Binod Chaudhary has contributed to his village by making hospitals and public toilets.
Another significant reason to agree is that, people who have strong financial status can also contribute to other countries when they are in need. Many nations faces different natural disasters like flood, earthquake and tsunami, which destroy various properties of nation and the people. A wealthy person can contribute to the country who are in need by sending funds. As a result, it also helps to create a healthy and strong relationship with the international countries and they can also get the help from that country when their country face the difficult situations. For example, a recent flood in Nepal- China border has a great effect on Nepal and people from India have helped to Nepal by sending money and other items like foods, medical equipments and tents to the people who are affected by the flood.
In conclusion, I completely agree that a wealthy person has the opportunity to help others, like to their community by building different infrastructues and also by to the nations who are facing difficult conditions.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
Your position is clear from the introduction—“I completely agree”—and remains consistent in the conclusion. You address the prompt by explaining two ways wealth can benefit others: improving local services through facilities such as hospitals and parks, and providing aid to countries affected by disasters. The examples of Binod Chaudhary and assistance after flooding help make these points relevant and concrete. This gives the response a clear, supported argument. To develop it further, explain more directly why the opportunity to help others is the most important aspect of being rich, rather than only showing that wealthy people can help. Some claims, such as the benefit of aid for international relationships, could also be qualified or explained in greater depth.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The response is organised into a clear introduction, two body paragraphs with distinct supporting points, and a conclusion. The progression from helping one’s community to assisting other countries is logical, and signposts such as “In addition,” “Another significant reason,” and “As a result” make the argument easy to follow. Examples are placed alongside the points they support. At times, however, linking phrases feel formulaic, and some connections could be expressed more precisely—for example, the relationship between disaster aid and receiving help in the future. The conclusion also repeats the two main points rather than drawing them together into a final insight. More varied referencing and smoother links between claims would make the cohesion less noticeable.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of vocabulary to discuss wealth, community development, and disaster relief, including “financially strong,” “natural disasters,” and “international countries.” These choices generally communicate your meaning, and the examples give you opportunities to use topic-specific terms. However, some expressions are imprecise or unnatural, such as “one of the main important reason,” “strong financial status,” and “healthy and strong relationship with the international countries.” There are also word-form and spelling issues, including “infrastructues” and “equipments.” Aim for more natural collocations and precise terms, such as “financially secure,” “infrastructure,” and “emergency supplies.” This would improve fluency and accuracy while retaining the clear, accessible vocabulary already present.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including conditional and subordinate clauses such as “when people are financially strong they can make parks” and “when their country face the difficult situations.” The overall meaning remains clear, and you attempt to explain causes and consequences. Some grammatical errors persist, particularly with subject–verb agreement, articles, and plural forms: “Many nations faces” should be “Many nations face,” while “the richest man” and “the international countries” need more accurate article use. Sentence boundaries and punctuation also need attention, as in “quality of life..” and the comma after “agree is that.” Review agreement and article use, and proofread punctuation; greater accuracy across these structures would strengthen the response.
