IELTS Writing Task 2 question

Some say that the most important thing about being rich is that one has the opportunity to help others. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

Student answer (Band 5.5)

This opinoin has become very popular among people that wealthy people can help the needy in every way they want . Only rich people have the potential to bring miserables out of poverty .

I, to a greater extant agree with the statement, as there are numerous wealthy people throughout the world that are running foundations for homeless and poor people . One such example is Elon musk who all the time love to spend some shares of its money on the underprivileged groups of the developing countries .

In addition , its the filthy countries that announce scholarships for poor students belonging to third world countrie and afford their all types of expenses. For instance currently Italy , one of the wealthies countries has opened its schorlarship programs for all the students around the world .

Elite people love to help poor by buying them basic necessities of daily life . In pakistan , most of the upper calss distrbute money among poor to buy things they long .

wealthy people have ability to open their own companies and provide job oppertunity to a large number of unemployed people . They can also initiate small business and hire some people there so that they can get an opportunity to learn . For example in Pakistan , there are multipule compnaies that are being ran by mallionaire where poor people are also performing their role . One such company is Gourmet in Pakistan .

Last but not the least , rich class has ability to buy home to poor so that they can find a shelter to live in .

In summation , its the upper class that can easily help the lower middle class of the society .

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

Your position is clear: you agree to a greater extent that wealth matters because it enables people to help others. You support this with several relevant routes, including scholarships, basic necessities, employment and housing, and the examples of Italy and a Pakistani company help make the discussion concrete. This addresses the question, but the response focuses mainly on ways rich people can help rather than explaining whether this is the most important aspect of being rich. Some points, such as buying homes for poor people, are asserted briefly without explaining their impact or limits. To develop the argument further, compare this benefit with other possible advantages of wealth and explain why helping others is more important.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has an overall progression: it states your view, gives several examples of assistance, and ends with a summary. Paragraph breaks also help separate the main points. However, the body reads partly as a list, with repeated openings such as “In addition,” “Elite people,” and “Last but not the least,” rather than a connected argument. Some links between claims and examples are abrupt, and the final sentence repeats the general position without drawing the points together. Group related examples into clearer paragraphs—for instance, direct financial support and education together, then employment and housing—and use referencing such as “these initiatives” to connect ideas. This would make the progression more natural and reduce the mechanical feel of the transitions.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use vocabulary relevant to the topic, including “underprivileged groups,” “scholarship programs,” “basic necessities,” and “job opportunity.” These choices show an attempt to discuss poverty and social support beyond very basic terms. However, spelling and word-choice errors are noticeable and sometimes make the reader pause: “opinion,” “extent,” “scholarships,” “millionaire,” and “companies” are misspelled, while “filthy countries” appears to mean wealthy countries and changes the intended meaning. Some phrases are also unnatural, such as “spend some shares of its money” and “things they long.” Build accuracy by checking spelling and learning common collocations, such as “donate a portion of their wealth” and “meet basic needs.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple statements and longer sentences, including a relative clause in “companies that are being ran by millionaire” and a purpose clause in “so that they can get an opportunity to learn.” This gives the response some structural variety, and the main ideas are generally understandable. However, there are recurring errors in verb forms, agreement, articles, and sentence construction. For example, “who all the time love” needs a correctly formed verb phrase, “its the filthy countries that announce” has an unclear grammatical structure, and “companies that are being ran” uses an incorrect participle. Review subject–verb agreement, verb forms, and article use, then proofread each sentence. More accurate complex sentences would help you express relationships between claims and examples clearly.
