IELTS Writing Task 2 question
Some say that the most important thing about being rich is that one has the opportunity to help others. To what extent do you agree or disagree?
Student answer (Band 6.0)
Some people believe that the most impotant factor about being rich is that individuals have an opportunity to help others. I partially agree with this view because people from advantaged backgrounds may provide financial support to the people from disadvantaged groups but being rich does not help in emotional support.
To begin with, people from high income backgrounds may have more opportunities to help others than the one who is earning comapratively low. This is because people who are rich may find ways to help people from disadvantaged communities. The majority of the private funds to the universities, hospitals and welfares are given by people who are extremely rich and can afford these fundings. For instance, companies and businesses owners have a higher income ratio then the one who is working there, may allow them to support their workers and benefit those who are in need. Therefore, people who earn well may provide financial support to workers and even help in the development of the country by giving donations and funds.
However, being rich does not guarantee an emotional help and support because this can only be done by people who can really feel the situation. Some people have money but they have no knowledge how to help people surffering from any emotional problem. They may only provide financial needs which somehow can help people but cannot complement emotional help. For example, some people who lose their loved ones, may only want emotional help rather than financial support.
In conclusion, although rich individuals may have an opportunity to help people from poor backgrounds and improve country's progress, they may not provide emotional support.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
Your position is clear: you partially agree, arguing that wealth enables financial assistance but does not necessarily provide emotional support. Both sides of this position are relevant, and examples such as donations to universities and hospitals and support for people grieving help explain your reasoning. However, the discussion of emotional support is less fully developed: the claim that it depends on people who “can really feel the situation” is asserted rather than explained, and the relationship between wealth and the “most important thing” could be examined more directly. To strengthen the response, clarify what you consider most important about being rich and develop each main point with a more specific explanation or example.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction states your position, two body paragraphs present contrasting points, and the conclusion restates your view. Transitions such as “To begin with,” “However,” and “In conclusion” make the progression easy to follow. The organisation is coherent, though some links between ideas are mechanical or unclear. For example, the sentence about business owners and workers is difficult to follow, so the connection between their higher incomes and the support they provide is not immediately clear. The final paragraph also repeats the introduction rather than drawing together the reasoning. Use clearer referencing and vary how you connect explanations and examples to make the progression more natural.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “financial support,” “disadvantaged communities,” “donations,” and “emotional support.” These choices communicate the main ideas, and there are attempts at more specific language. However, inaccurate word forms, spelling, and collocations limit precision: “fundings” is not the natural form here, “welfares” is unclear, and “emotional help” is less idiomatic than “emotional support.” There are also noticeable spelling errors, including “impotant,” “comapratively,” and “surffering.” Build accuracy by checking spelling and learning common word partnerships, such as “make donations” and “provide assistance.” A broader range of precise expressions would also help avoid repeating “help” and “support.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including a clear contrast with “although” in the conclusion and a reason clause beginning “This is because.” Most sentences remain understandable, and errors rarely prevent the reader from following your argument. Some grammatical problems do affect clarity, however. In “companies and businesses owners have a higher income ratio then the one who is working there, may allow them,” the sentence structure is incomplete and the subject–verb relationship is unclear. Other examples include “the one who is earning” where a plural form is needed, and “how to help people suffering” where a linking structure is missing. Practise building longer sentences around a clear subject and verb, and check articles, agreement, and punctuation.
