IELTS Writing Task 2 question
Some say that the most important thing about being rich is that one has the opportunity to help others. To what extent do you agree or disagree?
Student answer (Band 5.5)
Rich people have opportunity to help poor and needy.
There are many rich people who donate to different companies or NGOs to help people with low income. Helping poor can bring prosperity in the nation. For example:, There are many people who can hardly fulfil their basic living expenses. They do not have access to many basic rights like education, quality of food etc . They do not attend their schools, colleges or universities. They abandon the basic need of education, which causes the high illiteracy rate in society. if rich people will help such needy individuals then many problems of the society can be resolved.
Looking at the other aspect, people with high income should fix a proportion of thier monthly income. They should distribute this percentage to people with low income. This can bring the happiness and progress in the society. Some banks have the system, they take a percentage (2.5% of total annuall income) and give it to many poor people to reduce the poverty and to give them their basic rights. Government should take actions on it by providing free education to people who cannot afford it. Donations can help bringing a nation with high literacy rate , better food quality and ll other basic needs.
In conclusion, rich people have the opportunity to help the people who can hardly afford their finances. It is a big step for any nation to move ahead and to become most successful in the world. Ultimately it is the best thing that we can do for others. It is not just for the people even it happens between countries. if a country is facing financial hardships then a friend country help it sometimes in case of loan and sometimes for just help.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You address the topic by arguing that helping people in need is an important opportunity for the wealthy, and you support this with examples involving education, poverty and donations. However, the response does not clearly state how far you agree with the claim that this is the most important aspect of being rich. Much of the discussion explains how assistance benefits society, rather than weighing this against other possible benefits or responsibilities of wealth. The proposals about setting aside income and government-funded education are relevant, but their connection to your central position could be explained more fully. State your degree of agreement directly in the introduction, then develop one or two reasons with specific explanation and link them back to the question.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a recognisable structure, moving from the benefits of donations to suggestions for distributing income and then to a conclusion. Paragraphing helps separate these stages, and phrases such as “Looking at the other aspect” signal a shift. However, the progression is not always clear: the second body paragraph moves between personal contributions, a banking system and government action without explaining how these points relate. Some links are mechanical or imprecise, and the final point about countries helping one another is introduced abruptly. Organise each body paragraph around one main idea, use clearer references to connect examples to that idea, and make the conclusion summarise the argument rather than introduce a new example.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant topic vocabulary, including “donate,” “low income,” “poverty,” “illiteracy rate” and “financial hardships,” which allows you to discuss social support and its effects. However, the range is limited and several phrases are repeated, particularly “help,” “people” and “basic.” Some word choices and collocations are awkward, such as “bring prosperity in the nation,” “fix a proportion” and “a friend country help it.” Spelling and form errors, including “thier,” “annuall” and “ll,” also reduce accuracy. Build a wider set of precise expressions for charitable giving and social outcomes, and check that verbs naturally combine with their objects. This would make the argument clearer and more fluent.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and complex sentences, including conditional structures such as “if rich people will help such needy individuals then many problems… can be resolved.” However, complex sentences are often not controlled accurately, and errors sometimes make relationships between ideas harder to follow. For example, “There are many people who can hardly fulfil their basic living expenses” has an unclear grammatical pattern, while “if a country is facing financial hardships then a friend country help it” has problems with clause punctuation and verb form. There are also inconsistent capitalisation and sentence boundaries, as in “society. if rich people…”. Practise forming conditionals and subordinate clauses, and proofread for complete sentences, verb agreement and punctuation.
