IELTS Writing Task 2 question
Some say that the most important thing about being rich is that one has the opportunity to help others. To what extent do you agree or disagree?
Student answer (Band 5.5)
The group of people think that if you become rich then you have opportunity to help other because you have enough money to help who need of it. I strongly agree that if you become rich you have a chance to help others who is in some difficulties or some financial crises.
Poeple think that if they become rich, the good thing is that they help others. Its a positive and appreciate thought. But when people have a money and become wealthy they become greedy and narrow-minded person. They think just about themselves and forget to help others. They say that we earn on our own and if someone need money they should earn itself. And even they gave money they don't help someone who need of money. Alot of people have this type of thought after they become rich. They are completely dumb and fool who think like that. These people have to help others and also make sure that they use their money and wealth in a good way. The another most important thing is that they spend money to poors and helpless person around them.
The people who are really helpful to others even they become rich are the truly nice and virtuous person. They are not jsut think about them. They help a needy and helpless person on their difficult time. Its a good way to serve humanity and also it is a welfare job with your money. It also inspires others people to help others in their difficult time.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
Your position is clear: you strongly agree that wealth creates an opportunity to help people in difficulty. You also address the idea that some wealthy people become self-centred, then contrast them with people who use their money to support others. These points are relevant, but the response only partly develops the question of whether helping others is the most important aspect of being rich. For example, you describe generosity as “a good way to serve humanity,” but do not explain why it matters more than other benefits of wealth or give a specific example. Develop your central argument with reasons and an illustrative example, and make the comparison with other aspects of wealth explicit.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a recognisable structure: an opening position, a paragraph about wealthy people who do not help, and a final paragraph praising those who do. This gives the reader a basic route through your ideas. However, progression within the paragraphs is sometimes repetitive: the second paragraph repeats that rich people can be greedy and should help, while the final paragraph restates that helpful people are virtuous. Connections between claims are also limited, and phrases such as “The another most important thing” do not clearly signal how the next point relates to the argument. Organise each paragraph around one main claim, support it with an explanation or example, and use clearer transitions to show contrast and consequence.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “wealthy,” “greedy,” “needy,” “helpless,” and “serve humanity.” These words help communicate your general ideas about generosity and social responsibility. However, the range is limited and several choices or combinations are inaccurate or informal, which sometimes makes the meaning less natural. Examples include “help who need of it,” “spend money to poors,” and “dumb and fool”; the last phrase is also too insulting for a formal essay. Spelling errors such as “Poeple,” “Alot,” and “jsut” are noticeable. Build a more precise formal vocabulary and check spelling, word forms, and common collocations.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple statements and longer sentences with clauses, such as “They say that we earn on our own and if someone need money they should earn itself.” This shows an effort to express connected ideas, but the range remains limited and complex sentences are often faulty. Errors in agreement and sentence structure occur in examples such as “others who is,” “they become greedy and narrow-minded person,” and “they are not jsut think about them.” Articles and plural forms are also inconsistent, as in “have a money” and “a needy and helpless person” when referring generally to people. These errors sometimes make the reader pause. Practise accurate subject–verb agreement, articles, and clause construction, then proofread each sentence.
