IELTS Writing Task 2 question

Some say that the most important thing about being rich is that one has the opportunity to help others. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

Student answer (Band 5.5)

The argument about wealth is most valuable when it enable people to help others. I completely agree with view beacuse financial resources allow individuals to help others and contribute in the development of society.

One major reason why wealthy people make positive difference is that they can provide financial assistance to needy people. Many disadvantaged families struggle to afford basic neccesities, such as food, healthcare, education. Wealthy individuals help them by providing donations and funding their medical treatments and aslo by providing scholorships for talented students. For example, a wealthy person provide scholorship to under privelaged students so they can attend university without worrying about financial resources. Consequently, these students can gain better employment opportunities and can eventually contribute in the society wellbeing.

Another important reason is, wealthy person can contribute on much wider social problem by investing in charity programs or community projects and by doing this they can contribute in society development, they can make impact on much larger scale. For example, built a community park help to improve health of older people and children also enjoye there. As a result, children stay active and particate in much more physcial activites.

In conclusion, from my persective wealthy person have opportunities to contribute on social or individual levels .

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

Your position is clear: “I completely agree,” and both body paragraphs give relevant reasons, focusing on direct support for disadvantaged people and wider community projects. The scholarship example usefully shows how financial help can improve students’ future opportunities. However, the response does not fully develop the argument: the community-park example is brief, and the link between being rich and having the opportunity to help could be explained more precisely. The conclusion restates your view but adds little synthesis. The response is also 40 words below the required minimum, which limits the space available to extend and support your ideas. Develop each example with a clearer explanation of its impact and add a further supporting detail.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a clear overall arrangement: an introduction, two body paragraphs presenting separate reasons, and a conclusion. Sequencing phrases such as “One major reason,” “Another important reason,” and “In conclusion” help readers follow the main stages. Within paragraphs, examples generally follow the claims they support. However, some connections are mechanical or unclear. In the second body paragraph, “by investing in charity programs or community projects and by doing this” repeats the same link, while the park example does not clearly explain how it follows from the broader claim about social problems. The final sentence is also very brief and does not bring the two arguments together. Use fewer repeated signposts and make the relationship between each claim, example, and result explicit.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use a relevant range of topic vocabulary, including “financial assistance,” “disadvantaged families,” “medical treatments,” “scholarships,” and “community projects.” These choices make the subject clear, and phrases such as “employment opportunities” help express longer-term benefits. However, spelling errors are noticeable, including “neccesities,” “scholorships,” “privelaged,” and “persective.” Some word combinations are also inaccurate or awkward, such as “contribute in the development,” “contribute on much wider social problem,” and “society wellbeing.” These issues reduce precision, even though the main meaning is usually understandable. Check spelling carefully and learn common collocations as complete phrases, such as “contribute to society’s development” and “address wider social problems.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and more extended sentence forms, including a sentence beginning “Many disadvantaged families struggle…” followed by examples, and a result clause introduced by “Consequently.” This shows some ability to connect ideas in complex sentences. However, errors in verb forms, agreement, articles, and sentence construction recur. For example, “it enable people” needs subject–verb agreement, “a wealthy person provide” needs a correctly formed verb, and “For example, built a community park help” is not a complete, well-formed sentence. The opening phrase “I completely agree with view” also needs an article. These errors sometimes make the reader pause, although the intended meaning is generally recoverable. Practise checking each sentence for a clear subject and finite verb, then review agreement and articles.
