IELTS Writing Task 2 question
Some say that the most important thing about being rich is that one has the opportunity to help others. To what extent do you agree or disagree?
Student answer (Band 5.5)
Some people believe the most important thing about being rich is that one has the opportunity to others. I strongly agree with this view because wealthy people can easily help or support disadvantaged individual or those who are less fortunate.
Firstly, wealthy people can change someone's life by helping their basic needs. Even those ultra rich like elites people donate a lot of money to charities, provide food and basic needs to the lower income families. They even support their education who cannot support themselves. For examples, like Bill Gates Foundation, who supports in the education sector in the form of scholarship. This is the great way of changing someone's life or future.
Secondly, helping others or changing their life for the betterment is not only about money but helping others makes us a feeling of content and also a personal satisfaction. There were some peoples who does not help even though they are wealthy. I know many wealthy individuals who does not help in my community. If they could help a little bit then it would be more than enough for those who stays in the surrounding neighbourhood. I think it depends on the mindset too. Wealthy people can easily establised schools, hospitals and supports financial in the form of loans for small bussiness. This will improve the future life for low-income families.
In conclusion, being wealthy provides a comfort and financial security to others is one of the greatest benefits for kindness and humble. Helping the society can make a meaningful difference in the future.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
Your position is clear: you strongly agree that helping others is an important benefit of wealth. The two main reasons—meeting basic needs and gaining personal satisfaction—are relevant, and examples such as charitable donations and establishing schools or hospitals support the discussion. However, several points remain general or unclear, and the response does not fully explore why this is the most important aspect of being rich compared with other benefits. The conclusion also shifts awkwardly to “comfort and financial security,” without clearly linking this to your argument. The response is 243 words, so it is 7 words below the 250-word minimum; the 14 words copied from the prompt are excluded. Develop the comparison and explain your examples more fully.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, two body paragraphs signposted by “Firstly” and “Secondly,” and a conclusion. This helps the reader follow the broad direction of your argument. However, progression within paragraphs is uneven: the second body paragraph moves from personal satisfaction to people in your community, then to schools, hospitals and business loans without clearly connecting each point. Some linking phrases are repetitive or awkward, such as “For examples, like” and “This is the great way.” References such as “they” and “those” are not always precise. To improve, organise each paragraph around one main idea, explain it, and then give a directly related example; use linking devices more naturally.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “disadvantaged,” “charities,” “financial security,” “low-income families” and “meaningful difference.” These choices show an attempt to discuss social support beyond very basic terms. However, the range is limited and several word-choice, collocation and spelling problems make some phrases unclear or unnatural. Examples include “elites people,” “a feeling of content,” “establised,” and “supports financial.” Repetition of “helping others” and “wealthy people” also limits flexibility. Aim for accurate combinations such as “provide financial support” and “a sense of fulfilment,” and check spelling carefully. More precise vocabulary would help you explain the effects of charitable support and community investment.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more extended sentences, and the overall meaning is usually recoverable. However, the range is limited, and errors occur frequently in sentence construction, agreement, verb forms and articles. For example, “wealthy people can easily help or support disadvantaged individual” needs a plural noun, while “There were some peoples who does not help” has problems with both the noun and verb agreement. The sentence beginning “They even support their education who cannot support themselves” is difficult to follow because the clause structure is incomplete. Practise building accurate sentences with a clear subject and verb, and check singular/plural agreement and articles. Shorter, controlled sentences will help make your ideas clearer before you attempt more complex structures.
