IELTS Writing Task 2 question
Some say that the most important thing about being rich is that one has the opportunity to help others. To what extent do you agree or disagree?
Student answer (Band 5.5)
Being rich in society can give you many opportunities to help someone financially. Some people have strong believe that money can solve every problem in the world. However, there are also some setbacks of being wealthy.
I partially agree with this statement as it gives us a lesson too. Being rich gives us many opportunities, like to help someone financially. Additionally, it can bring happiness and joy in society. To exemplify, if someone is rich and help everyone through his money, it will built a good relationship between everyone in the society.
Moreover, being rich can give us many more opportunities to help everyone like, we can help orphans or the people who are hungry all around the world as a donation. If someone is rich and has the opportunity to help someone, they should help them. In my opinion, it is not the most important thing to do .
However, there are some disadvantages of being rich and helping others which made me agreeing given statement partially. To illustrate, a survey conducted by WWW shows us that rich people usually waste there money on buying silly things, rather they have opportunity to help others. So, that is the reason which made me think about helping others is the most important thing for rich people ?
In conclusion, i must say that helping others financially is not the most important thing, you have to look at your own family and problems. Helping others can be the second most important thing in society.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You give a clear general view that helping others matters, but it is not the most important responsibility, as shown by “I partially agree” and your conclusion about prioritising family. This addresses the question, but the position is not consistently explained: you also say “it is not the most important thing to do” and later describe helping others as “the most important thing for rich people,” which makes your degree of agreement difficult to follow. The supporting ideas are relevant, particularly donations to orphans and hungry people, but they remain broad. Develop the reasoning by explaining why helping others is valuable yet secondary to another responsibility, and use a specific, credible example rather than the unsupported survey claim.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has an introduction, body paragraphs and a conclusion, and signposts such as “Additionally,” “Moreover,” and “However” help show intended relationships between ideas. However, progression is limited because several paragraphs repeat the same point about wealthy people helping others, rather than building a distinct argument. The shift from the benefits of helping to the claim that rich people waste money is not fully connected to your position, and the survey example does not clearly support the conclusion. Some linking phrases are used mechanically, and the question mark at the end of a statement interrupts the flow. Give each paragraph one clear purpose, connect examples directly to your reasoning, and use referencing and transitions more selectively.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate the main ideas, including “wealthy,” “financially,” “donation,” and “disadvantages.” However, the range is limited and several words or phrases are repeated, especially “help,” “opportunities,” and “rich.” Some choices are inaccurate or unnatural, such as “strong believe,” “built a good relationship,” and “silly things”; these make parts of the argument less precise. There are also spelling and word-form errors, including “there” where you mean “their” and “agreeing” where “agreeing with” or “agree” is needed. Build a wider set of precise expressions for charitable support, personal responsibilities and spending, and check collocations and spelling when editing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and complex sentences, including conditional structures such as “if someone is rich and help everyone through his money,” and a contrast introduced by “However.” Nevertheless, the range is limited, and errors occur frequently in verb forms, agreement, articles and sentence construction. For example, “if someone is rich and help” needs a matching verb form, while “it will built” should use the correct form after “will.” In “a survey … shows us,” the later reference to “there money” also contains an agreement-related form error. Capitalisation and punctuation are inconsistent, including lowercase “i” and a question mark after a statement. Practise accurate conditional sentences and proofread each sentence for subject–verb agreement and verb forms.
