Some say that the most important thing about being rich is that one has the opportunity to help others. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

Student answer (Band 5.5)

The importance of helping others has become a subject of considerable debate in modern society. Although some people say that the most important thing about being rich is that one has the opportunity to help others, while others disagree with it. According to my opinion, Helping others is the important thing to be rich.

Everyone need help in his life because we all need help of each other in many ways and in many aspects of life. Many people in today's society are living a life of poverty and are not be able to get the basic necesseties of life like good education, good medical facilities and also good environment to grow and earn money so it's the opportunity to become rich is to take the responsibilty of these poor people and make some ways for them to earn handsome amount of money for them and get facilities that the need in their basic life and in this way, the people will get help and the individual become rich too. For instance, Abdul Sattar Edhi think about the poor people and help them in every aspect of their life and become rich too.

Moreover, helping others is the basic and foremost ability that everyone must need to develop because the beneficial person is the one who give benefits to others. In addition, if we help others we also get good return and things will become good for us too but sometimes when we help other people tricks the person who helped them instead of giving a good return. For instance, My friend Ali helped someone and return his lost wallet but the other person said that his money is missing.

To put in a nutshell, I sum up saying that helping others is the first and important ability so the people get some ease in their problems and the rich people must need to support the poor people financially and I am completely agree with the statement that the most important thing about being rich is that one has the opportunity to help others.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

Your position is broadly clear: you agree that helping others is an important opportunity associated with wealth, and the conclusion restates this view. The discussion of poverty and access to education and medical care is relevant, and the Edhi example gives some support. However, the response only partly addresses the precise claim about what is *most important* about being rich. At points, the argument shifts to saying that helping is an ability everyone should develop, rather than explaining why this opportunity outweighs other aspects of wealth. The wallet anecdote is also weakly connected to the central question. Develop the main reason more fully and make each example directly demonstrate how wealth enables meaningful help.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, two body paragraphs and a conclusion, and signposts such as “Moreover” and “To put in a nutshell” help show the intended stages. However, progression within paragraphs is uneven: the first body paragraph moves from general need to poverty, earning money and Edhi without clearly separating or linking these points. The second paragraph introduces a counterpoint about people exploiting help, but the wallet story does not clearly connect back to the claim about wealth. Some linking is mechanical, and references such as “the individual” and “the people” are not always precise. Organise each paragraph around one main reason, then use a clear explanation and a directly relevant example to develop it.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use some topic-relevant vocabulary, including “poverty,” “basic necessities,” “medical facilities,” “responsibility” and “financially,” which helps communicate the subject. There are also attempts at more formal phrasing, such as “considerable debate.” However, the range is limited by repeated general words such as “help,” “people” and “good,” and several choices or collocations are inaccurate or awkward, including “get good return,” “handsome amount of money” and “beneficial person.” Spelling errors such as “necesseties” and “responsibilty” are noticeable. Build a more precise set of expressions for charitable support and social impact, and check spelling and natural word combinations so your meaning is consistently easy to follow.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and longer sentences, including clauses introduced by “because,” “so” and “when,” but complex sentences are often difficult to control, and errors occur frequently enough to affect clarity. For example, “Although some people say …, while others disagree with it” combines two contrasting structures incorrectly, while “Everyone need help” has a subject–verb agreement error. In “the people will get help and the individual become rich too,” the verb form and shift in number are problematic. Capitalisation is also inconsistent, as in “Helping” and “My friend.” Use shorter, controlled sentences when presenting complex ideas, and check agreement, verb forms, articles and sentence boundaries before adding further clauses.
