IELTS Writing Task 2 question

Some say that the most important thing about being rich is that one has the opportunity to help others. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

Student answer (Band 5.0)

People forgetting helping others few individuals consider that it is essential thing about being wealthier because it is one has the opportunity to help others. I completely disagree with view point because of emotional support and by donating.

One of the major reason of my approval is emotional support. This is due to the facts that always money is not a part of helping sometimes person's need a emotionally support to retain their self from difficulties and other obstacles. People also feel motivated and confident whenever someone support them in their hard time because of the people not only easily express their emotions and they feel more light or relaxed but also maintain strong relationship with them. For instance, if people are upset and do not accept the solution then sweet words and emotional support help them to stay strong. Thus, money is not a symbol of helping people also help others with their emotions.

Another worth considering reason of my agreement is by donating. This means that masses can help others by donating useable clothes and blankets instead of throwing away . People also provide limited resources by giving food, shelter, books and other basic things. Moreover, children provide their old books to street children by which they also get information without purchasing any thing.

To conclude, help others helps people show manners and etiquettes, I believe that it is not essential to being rich to helping others because people can help by donating things and emotional support .

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You take a position against the claim, stating that helping others is not the essential benefit of wealth, and your two supporting points—emotional support and donating useful items—are relevant. The examples of comforting an upset person and giving books to children help illustrate these ideas. However, the response only partially addresses the question because it does not clearly explain what you believe is most important about being rich, or compare that benefit with helping others. The opening is also difficult to interpret, and the conclusion repeats your view without resolving this gap. To strengthen the response, state your position precisely and develop each reason with a clearer explanation of how it answers the question about wealth and its importance.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Each body paragraph focuses on one main point, and signposts such as “One of the major reason” and “Another worth considering reason” help indicate the sequence. However, progression within sentences is often unclear, and some links are mechanical or inaccurate. For example, “because of the people not only easily express their emotions” does not connect the ideas logically, while “To conclude, help others helps people show manners and etiquettes” introduces a point that has not been developed. Improve cohesion by making each paragraph follow a clear claim–explanation–example sequence and using pronouns and linking phrases only where their references and relationships are clear.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “emotional support,” “donating,” “limited resources,” and “basic things.” These choices make the general subject understandable. However, the range is limited and several inaccurate word choices or collocations make parts of the response difficult to follow. Examples include “my approval” for your position, “retain their self from difficulties,” and “help others with their emotions.” Some expressions are also vague or unnatural, such as “useable clothes” and “masses.” Aim for more precise, natural phrasing and check whether words commonly occur together. For instance, you could describe people as “coping with difficulties,” refer to “people” rather than “masses,” and say that someone “offers emotional support.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including a sentence with “not only…but also” and conditional phrasing such as “if people are upset.” However, complex structures are often faulty, and frequent errors in agreement, articles, verb forms, and sentence construction sometimes make the meaning hard to follow. For example, “One of the major reason” has an agreement error, while “a person's need a emotionally support” contains several grammatical problems. The opening sentence also lacks a clear grammatical structure. Work first on producing accurate simple sentences, then build longer ones with clear subjects and verbs. Check singular and plural forms, articles, and verb agreement, and divide sentences when several ideas are joined unclearly.
