Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You identify the three activities and give a broad overview, noting that café visits are generally popular and fresh coffee purchases are comparatively low. You also include relevant city comparisons, such as café attendance in Sydney and Melbourne and the high café figure in Hobart. However, some key details are inaccurate or unclear: fresh coffee was not the least common activity in every city, and in Brisbane and Adelaide the café and instant-coffee percentages are not the same. The statement that fresh coffee was below 35% in Hobart is also incorrect; it was about 38.5%. To strengthen the report, compare the main highs and lows accurately across all five cities and avoid unsupported generalisations such as “in these five country.”

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a basic structure: an introduction, an overview, and paragraphs comparing groups of cities. This gives the reader some sense of how the information is organised. However, progression is uneven because the comparisons are grouped by location without consistently explaining how the three activities differ within each city. Linking words such as “Moreover,” “In contrast,” and “Meanwhile” are attempted, but some connections are unclear or do not accurately signal the relationship between the figures. The sentence beginning “In Brisbane and Adelaide” is especially difficult to follow. Use clearer topic sentences and organise comparisons around the main patterns—for example, café visits versus coffee purchases—then use linking phrases only where the relationship is precise.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant task vocabulary, including “percentage,” “purchased,” “residents,” and “went to a cafe,” so the topic is generally understandable. However, the range is limited and several word choices or forms are inaccurate, including “took fresh coffee,” “had a coffee,” and “brought fresh coffee.” Spelling errors such as “Malbourne,” “instand,” and “arounf” also make the writing less clear and reduce precision. Some expressions are repetitive, particularly references to people and percentages. Build a more accurate set of chart-reporting collocations, such as “bought fresh coffee,” “visited a café,” and “accounted for,” and check spelling carefully before submitting.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including a contrast with “while” and a comparison introduced by “In contrast.” However, the range is limited, and errors occur frequently enough to make some sentences difficult to interpret. For example, “went to a cafe to had a coffee or tea” has an incorrect verb form, while “the percentage of people who purchased … and went … was same” has problems with article use and sentence construction. There are also inconsistent sentence boundaries and punctuation, such as the full stop before “And” and the run-on punctuation in “55%..In contrast”. Practise accurate verb patterns, articles, and complete sentence boundaries, then proofread each sentence for a clear subject and verb.
