Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify relevant overall patterns, including café visits being especially popular in Melbourne and Hobart and fresh coffee being relatively low in Brisbane and Adelaide. Several figures are also broadly accurate: Sydney’s fresh-coffee figure is about 44%, and café attendance is around 61% there and 63% in Melbourne. However, the overview is incomplete and one comparison is inaccurate: Adelaide, not Brisbane, has the lowest café figure, while Hobart is marginally below Melbourne. The report also omits important comparisons for instant coffee and leaves the Hobart fresh-coffee point unfinished. To strengthen the response, give a complete overview of the main contrasts and report the remaining city figures accurately, rather than relying on general statements such as “show minior interest.”
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response has a basic paragraph structure, moving from an introduction and overview to city-specific details, and expressions such as “On the other hand” and “Though” show an attempt to connect contrasts. However, the progression is difficult to follow because the overview contains unclear comparisons and the body moves abruptly between cities. The final sentence stops before completing the Hobart comparison, leaving the report without a clear ending. Some linking phrases are also used in awkward or confusing ways, such as “From Brisbane and Adelaide people show…” and “Though cafe going trend take leads in Brisbane.” Organise the details into clearer comparisons—for example, group café attendance separately from coffee purchases—and use straightforward links between complete sentences.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “residents,” “purchasing,” “trend,” and “interest,” so the reader can generally identify the topic and comparisons. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations sound unnatural, including “visiting cafe … is really in trend,” “people love visiting cafe,” and “instant coffee trend take leads.” Repetition of “trend” and “habit” also makes the description less precise. Spelling errors such as “visting,” “habbit,” “coffe,” and “minior” further reduce accuracy. Aim for neutral chart-reporting language and use precise verbs such as “accounted for,” “recorded,” or “was more popular,” while checking spelling and avoiding conversational expressions like “love.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt some complex sentence forms, including the contrast in “Around 44% …, although 61% …” and the sentence beginning “Though,” but control is inconsistent. Errors in sentence structure and agreement occur in examples such as “in Brisbane and Adelaide show least interest” and “instant coffee trend take leads.” There are also problems with articles, plurals, and possessive forms, as in “visiting cafe” and “Peoples from Melbourne.” The final clause, “habit of fresh coffee is only,” is incomplete and prevents the intended comparison from being understood. Use complete subject–verb structures, check singular and plural agreement, and finish each sentence before moving to the next point. More accurate simple sentences would improve clarity while you build control of complex forms.
