The chart below shows the results of a survey about people’s coffee and tea buying and drinking habits in five Australian cities.

Summarize the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

Student answer (Band 7.5)

The bar chart compares coffee and tea buying and drinking habits of residents of five cities (Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide and Hobart) in Australia during last 4 weeks.

Overall, people that went to a cafe for coffee or tea in last 4 weeks dominated the statistics in evey city, whereas people buying fresh coffee in last 4 weeks registered the lowest percentage in all five cities.

People going to a cafe for coffee or tea was the highest in Melbourne (64%), following this was Hobart (63%), Sydney (61%), Brisbane (56%) and the lowest among them was Adelaide (49%). City population preferred buying instant coffee rather than fresh coffee as numbers were higher for instant coffee in every city compared to fresh coffee. The highest proportion of people buying instant coffee was in Brisbane (53%) and the lowest proportion constituted in Sydney (46%).

Around 44% of the people in Sydney bought fresh coffee in the last 4 weeks, which was the highest for this category, while the lowest was recorded in Brisbane with 34%.
