Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The response covers all requirements of the task. You have successfully identified the main features and made relevant comparisons between the five cities. The overview is clear and highlights the key trends effectively. However, the data reporting is occasionally slightly imprecise, such as stating 'more than 60%' when the chart shows specific values, and there are some minor inaccuracies in the data interpretation (e.g., the claim about Adelaide). To improve, ensure that your data points are as accurate as possible and avoid vague quantifiers when specific figures are available. Overall, the response is well-structured and addresses the prompt comprehensively.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The essay is logically organized into an introduction, an overview, and two body paragraphs. You use cohesive devices such as 'Overall', 'In Sydney, Melbourne and Hobart', 'Subsequently', and 'On the other hand' to guide the reader. However, some transitions feel a bit mechanical, and there are instances where the flow is slightly disrupted by repetitive phrasing or minor errors in referencing. For example, the use of 'In contrary' is incorrect; 'In contrast' or 'Conversely' would be more appropriate. Paragraphing is used effectively to separate the data, which helps the reader follow your comparison of the different cities.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'proportion', 'illustrates', 'purchasing', and 'consumed'. There are some minor errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'survey taken' instead of 'survey conducted' and 'most number of people' instead of 'the majority of people'. While these errors do not impede communication, they prevent the response from reaching a higher band. To improve, focus on using more precise collocations and avoiding repetitive structures. Expanding your range of synonyms for 'buying' and 'drinking' would also enhance the quality of your writing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While you attempt to use complex sentences, there are several grammatical errors, including missing articles ('in last four weeks'), subject-verb agreement issues ('is is cleat'), and punctuation errors (e.g., 'and and'). Some sentences are slightly awkward, such as 'most number of people preferred to go to cafe'. Despite these errors, the meaning remains clear throughout the text. To reach a higher band, focus on proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy, particularly with articles and prepositions, and ensure that your sentence structures are consistently error-free.
