Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, which significantly impacts the task achievement score. While you have identified some key features, such as the popularity of cafe visits and the trends in instant coffee consumption, the analysis is incomplete. You have not provided a comprehensive overview of all data points, and the final paragraph is abrupt and lacks sufficient detail. To improve, ensure you cover all categories (cafe visits, fresh coffee, and instant coffee) for all five cities, and provide a clear, well-developed summary that meets the length requirements.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into paragraphs, but the structure is somewhat unconventional. Placing a 'Conclusion' section in the middle of the response disrupts the flow of information. While there is an attempt to group data, the progression of ideas is not entirely logical. Cohesive devices are used sparingly and sometimes mechanically. To improve, use a standard structure: an introduction, an overview of main trends, and two body paragraphs detailing specific comparisons. Use linking words like 'whereas', 'in contrast', or 'similarly' to connect your ideas more fluidly.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

Your vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but it lacks the precision and variety required for a higher band. There are some awkward phrasings, such as 'The bare chat illustrate' (likely a typo for 'bar chart') and 'teas are purchasing'. You rely on basic verbs like 'recorded' and 'bought'. To improve, incorporate more sophisticated vocabulary related to data description, such as 'proportion', 'fluctuated', 'predominant', or 'marginal'. Ensure you proofread for basic spelling and word-form errors, as these can distract the reader.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The response contains a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('Melbourne and Sydney was') and incorrect word forms ('five differences Australia'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with spacing. While the meaning is generally clear, these errors occur frequently enough to impede the flow of the text. To improve, focus on mastering subject-verb agreement and ensure that your sentence structures are grammatically sound before attempting more complex forms.
