Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response covers all parts of the task by identifying the main features and making relevant comparisons across the five cities. You successfully highlighted the trends for fresh coffee, instant coffee, and cafe visits. However, the analysis is slightly hampered by some inaccuracies in data reporting. For instance, you mention that 45% of residents in Sydney bought fresh coffee, whereas the chart shows this figure for cafe visits. Additionally, describing 50% as 'steeply low' is an over-generalization, as this is a significant portion of the population. To improve, ensure that data points are mapped precisely to the correct categories and cities to avoid misrepresenting the provided information.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, with an introduction, an overview, and body paragraphs focusing on specific categories. The progression of ideas is generally clear. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Overall,' 'However,' and 'Subsequently,' which help guide the reader. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and the referencing is occasionally imprecise, such as the use of 'it' in 'other cities were slightly lower,' which makes it difficult to track exactly what is being compared. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring clear antecedents for pronouns will help achieve a more natural flow.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'illustrates,' 'outcome,' 'significantly higher,' and 'favored.' There are some minor inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'least performed habit' (which is not a standard collocation) and 'nearly distributed' (which does not accurately describe the data). While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey the main points, it lacks the precision and flexibility required for higher bands. To improve, focus on using more precise collocations related to data description, such as 'the most popular choice' or 'a significant proportion.'

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors, such as 'individuals coffee and tea buying' (missing possessive apostrophe) and 'almost 45% residents' (missing 'of'). Some sentences are slightly awkward, such as 'the second highest category was buying instant coffee which was nearly distributed in the cities Brisbane and Hobart.' Despite these errors, they do not impede communication. To reach a higher band, focus on consistent use of articles, correct preposition usage, and refining complex sentence structures to ensure they are error-free.
