Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response attempts to summarize the data, but it fails to provide a clear overview or highlight the most significant trends effectively. While it mentions specific percentages for coffee and tea, the presentation is fragmented and lacks a logical structure. The comparison between cities is present but poorly integrated, making it difficult to identify the main features at a glance. The summary of the 'cafe' data is disconnected from the rest of the report. To improve, you should group the data more logically (e.g., comparing coffee consumption across all cities first, then tea) and include a clear introductory overview that summarizes the main trends rather than just listing individual figures.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The response lacks a clear paragraph structure, which makes it difficult to follow. There is no clear progression of ideas; the text jumps between coffee and tea statistics without effective transitions or logical grouping. Cohesive devices are largely absent or misused, such as the repetitive use of 'have' and the lack of linking words to connect sentences. The text feels like a list of data points rather than a cohesive report. To improve, use paragraphing to separate different categories of data and employ linking words like 'whereas', 'in contrast', or 'similarly' to show the relationship between the different cities and habits.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is quite limited and repetitive. You rely heavily on basic verbs like 'have' and 'buying' throughout the text. There is little attempt to use more precise vocabulary related to data description, such as 'proportion', 'percentage', 'consumption', or 'preference'. Some phrasing is awkward, such as 'tea use is moderate' or 'much buyer', which indicates a lack of familiarity with natural collocations. To reach a higher band, focus on learning synonyms for 'increase', 'decrease', and 'high/low' and practice using nouns to describe the data rather than relying on simple verb structures.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, including issues with subject-verb agreement ('Sydney have', 'Melbourne have'), article usage ('the coffee use'), and sentence structure. Many sentences are fragmented or run-on, which hinders readability. There is a lack of complex sentence structures, as most sentences are simple and repetitive in their construction. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with missing commas and periods. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, ensuring that subjects and verbs agree, and practicing the use of complex sentences using subordinating conjunctions like 'although' or 'while'.
