Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

The response covers all parts of the task by identifying the main features of the survey across the five cities. You have successfully selected key data points to illustrate the trends in coffee and tea consumption. However, the analysis is slightly hindered by the use of terms like 'upward trend' and 'lower trend', which are not entirely accurate for a static bar chart comparing data at a single point in time; 'higher' or 'lower' proportions would be more precise. Additionally, while you make comparisons, some of the data reporting is a bit repetitive. To reach a higher band, ensure that your overview highlights the most significant differences rather than just listing trends.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5

The response is logically organized into clear paragraphs, with an introduction, an overview, and two body paragraphs. You use cohesive devices such as 'Looking at the data in more detail', 'Furthermore', and 'On the other hand' to guide the reader. However, some transitions are slightly mechanical, and the referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the final paragraph where the comparison between Adelaide and Hobart could be more fluid. The paragraphing is appropriate, and there is a clear progression of ideas from the general overview to the specific city-by-city breakdown.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'proportion', 'residents', and 'respectively' correctly. There are some minor inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'there ratio' (should be 'their ratio') and 'around59%' (a spacing error). You attempt to use some less common vocabulary, but the range is somewhat limited. To improve, try to incorporate more varied synonyms for 'buying' or 'drinking' and ensure that your collocations are precise, such as using 'consumption habits' instead of just 'drinking habits'.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is appropriate for this task. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'people who bought instant coffee... experienced an upward trend' (which is slightly awkward phrasing for a static chart) and 'compared to the Sydney and Brisbane' (the article 'the' is unnecessary here). Punctuation is generally functional, though there are some issues with comma usage and spacing. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles.
