Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response covers all parts of the task by identifying the main features of the survey across the five cities. However, the reporting is somewhat mechanical and repetitive. While you successfully highlight the highest and lowest figures, the comparison between cities could be more analytical. For example, you list the data for each city sequentially rather than grouping them to show trends or significant differences. To improve, focus on synthesizing the data—grouping cities with similar habits or contrasting the most extreme differences—rather than just listing the percentages for each category. This would demonstrate a more sophisticated approach to data interpretation.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the information. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat repetitive and occasionally awkward. Phrases like 'Following that' and 'On other hand' are used, but the transition between sentences is sometimes abrupt. The referencing is also occasionally unclear, such as in the paragraph about Brisbane, where 'fresh coffee' is mentioned twice instead of comparing it to another category. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that pronouns or referencing terms clearly point back to the correct data points will help improve the flow and logical progression of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

You have an adequate range of vocabulary to describe the data, such as 'accounted for', 'represented', and 'constituted'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation. For instance, 'sales of went for coffee or tea' is grammatically incorrect and confusing. Additionally, you repeat the same phrasing for each city, which limits the lexical variety. To reach a higher band, try to use more precise synonyms for 'sales' or 'results' and avoid repeating the same sentence structures. Using more varied reporting verbs and nouns related to consumer behavior would enhance the sophistication of your response.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors that occur throughout the text. Examples include 'the highest result of purchases fresh coffee' (should be 'purchases of fresh coffee') and 'sales of instant coffee in recent some weeks represented' (which is an incomplete thought). There are also issues with preposition usage, such as 'constituted for' instead of 'constituted'. While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding the data, they occur frequently enough to impact the overall fluency of the writing.
