Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, which negatively impacts the score. While you have identified the main features of the chart, the overview is extremely brief and lacks a clear summary of the trends. The data reporting is somewhat mechanical, listing figures city by city rather than synthesizing the information effectively. To improve, ensure you provide a more comprehensive overview that highlights the most significant differences or similarities across the five cities, and ensure you meet the minimum length requirement to avoid a penalty.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat limited and repetitive. Phrases like 'Moving towards the rest of the information' are a bit clunky. The progression of ideas is logical, but the connection between sentences could be smoother. To improve, try using a wider variety of linking words and transition phrases to connect your points more naturally. Ensure that each paragraph has a clear focus, and avoid very short, underdeveloped paragraphs like the final one.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task but lacks variety and precision. You rely on basic terms like 'bought', 'show similarity', and 'love to visit'. There are also some awkward collocations, such as '45% buyer' (should be '45% of buyers') and 'cafeteria' (which is often used for a workplace or school canteen rather than a coffee shop). To reach a higher band, incorporate more precise vocabulary related to data description, such as 'proportion', 'expenditure', 'consumption', or 'preference', and ensure your word forms are accurate.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are several grammatical errors. For example, 'in last 4 weeks' should be 'in the last 4 weeks', and 'which was increased by 2%' is an awkward passive construction. There are also issues with subject-verb agreement and missing articles. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to affect the overall clarity. Focus on proofreading for small errors like articles and prepositions, and try to vary your sentence structures with more complex clauses.
