Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The response covers all parts of the task by identifying the main features and making relevant comparisons across the five cities. You have successfully highlighted the key trends for fresh coffee, instant coffee, and cafe visits. However, the report could be improved by ensuring the data points are consistently accurate and clearly linked to the specific categories. For instance, while you mention Sydney and Hobart in the cafe section, the comparison could be more precise. The overview is present but could be more distinct to better highlight the overall trends rather than just listing specific city data. Overall, you have provided a clear summary of the information presented in the chart.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The response is logically organized into paragraphs, with an introduction, an overview, and body paragraphs focusing on specific categories. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Moreover', 'At a glance', and 'In terms of', which help the flow of information. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and the referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the final paragraph where the transition 'At the end' is not the most natural choice for concluding a report. Paragraphing is used appropriately, and the progression of ideas is generally easy to follow throughout the text.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'illustrates', 'compares', 'majority', and 'approximately'. There are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'citizens, who purchasing' (should be 'citizens who purchased') and 'went cafe' (should be 'went to a cafe'). Additionally, 'In all mentioned notions' is not a standard phrase for this context. While these errors do not impede communication, they indicate a need for more precise control over word forms and collocations to reach a higher band score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, particularly with verb forms and subject-verb agreement, such as 'the lowest number are seen' (should be 'is seen') and 'the majority of people went to cafe' (should be 'went to a cafe'). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are some awkward phrasings that affect the fluency of the sentences. While the meaning remains clear, the frequency of these minor errors prevents the writing from reaching a higher level of grammatical control.
