Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The response covers all parts of the task by identifying the main features of the data across the five cities. You successfully highlight the trends for cafe visits, instant coffee, and fresh coffee. However, the overview is slightly weak; while you identify the highest and lowest categories, it lacks a clear synthesis of the overall trends. The data reporting is generally accurate, though some comparisons could be more precise. To improve, ensure that the overview provides a more comprehensive summary of the most significant trends rather than just listing the highest and lowest points.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is logically organized into paragraphs, with an introduction, an overview, and body paragraphs focusing on specific cities. You use some cohesive devices like 'Moreover', 'Whereas', and 'Similarly' to link ideas. However, the flow is occasionally mechanical, and some transitions feel repetitive. The referencing is generally clear, but the paragraphing could be improved by grouping cities with similar trends rather than listing them city by city, which would create a more sophisticated progression of information.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'proportion', 'accounted for', and 'individuals'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'approached the cafe' (instead of 'visited') and 'customers attract the shop' (which is grammatically awkward). There are also minor spelling errors like 'apporximately'. To reach a higher band, focus on using more precise collocations related to data description and ensure consistent spelling.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with prepositions and verb forms, such as 'brought fresh coffee' (should be 'bought') and 'at same level of percentage'. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with missing spaces after commas. While these errors do not impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. Focus on subject-verb agreement and consistent use of articles.
