Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The response covers all parts of the task by identifying the main features and making relevant comparisons across the five cities. The overview is clear, highlighting the general trend that cafe visits were more popular than purchasing coffee for home use. However, the report is somewhat mechanical, as it lists data city by city rather than grouping information more effectively to highlight trends or significant differences. While the key features are present, the analysis could be more insightful by focusing on the most striking contrasts, such as the clear preference for cafe culture over home brewing across all locations.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The response is logically organized, with a clear introduction, an overview, and body paragraphs that group the data by city. Cohesive devices such as 'In addition', 'Moreover', and 'whereas' are used to link ideas, although some transitions feel slightly repetitive or mechanical. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the different sets of data. While the progression of ideas is generally clear, the flow could be improved by using a wider variety of linking phrases to avoid the repetitive structure of 'In [City], [percentage] people...'. Overall, the information is easy to follow.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
The range of vocabulary is adequate for the task, covering the necessary terms related to the survey data (e.g., 'buying and drinking habits', 'fresh coffee', 'instant coffee', 'cafe'). There are some minor errors in word choice and collocation, such as '45% people bought' instead of '45% of people bought'. The vocabulary is functional but lacks the sophistication or variety that would characterize a higher band. To improve, you should aim to use more varied synonyms for 'bought' or 'went to a cafe' and ensure accurate prepositional usage when describing percentages.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement and missing articles (e.g., 'The given bar chart illustrate' should be 'illustrates', and '45% people' should be '45% of people'). Additionally, there are some punctuation issues, such as starting sentences with 'whereas' or 'moreover' without proper integration. While these errors are frequent, they do not impede communication, and the meaning remains clear throughout. Increasing the accuracy of basic grammatical structures will help improve this score.
