Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The response covers all parts of the task by identifying the main features of the survey across the five cities. You have successfully included data for fresh coffee, instant coffee, and cafe visits. However, the report is somewhat mechanical, simply listing figures city by city rather than synthesising the information to highlight key trends or significant differences more effectively. While you have made some comparisons, such as noting the highest and lowest figures, the analysis could be more sophisticated by grouping cities with similar trends or contrasting the clear preference for cafe visits over fresh coffee consumption. The overview is present but could be more detailed to better reflect the data's overall significance.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The response is logically organised with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a concluding overview. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the different categories of data. Cohesive devices are present, such as 'To begin with', 'followed by', and 'while', which help guide the reader. However, some transitions feel a bit repetitive or mechanical. For instance, the transition between the instant coffee data and the cafe data could be smoother. The referencing is generally clear, though the flow between sentences in the second paragraph is slightly disjointed due to the heavy reliance on listing statistics rather than developing a narrative flow.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You have a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey the information clearly. Terms like 'depicts', 'tendency', 'proportion', and 'dwellers' are used appropriately. However, there are some minor issues with collocation and word choice, such as 'maximum buying of fresh coffee' (which sounds unnatural; 'highest consumption' or 'greatest purchase rate' would be better) and 'insisted on buying' (which is not the best fit for survey data). The vocabulary is generally functional and accurate enough to communicate the data without difficulty, but it lacks the precision and variety required for a higher band score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are some grammatical errors, such as '64% people' (should be '64% of people') and 'for last 4 weeks' (should be 'for the last 4 weeks'). The phrase 'While, half proportion of Adelaide residents' is grammatically incomplete. Additionally, the sentence 'Highest 64% of residents from Melbourne went to a cafe' is slightly awkward. Despite these errors, the meaning is always clear, and the mistakes do not impede communication. To improve, focus on article usage and ensuring that complex sentences are constructed with correct subject-verb agreement.
