Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response identifies the main features of the chart, such as the popularity of cafes in Melbourne and the trends for instant and fresh coffee. However, the data reporting is inconsistent and occasionally inaccurate. For example, you state Hobart and Sydney were the second and third highest for cafe visits, but the chart shows Sydney and Hobart have different figures. Furthermore, the summary lacks a clear overview of the relationships between the categories. While you attempt to compare the cities, the lack of precision in reporting the data points (e.g., 'around 64 percentage') and the confusing structure in the second paragraph hinder the clarity of the information presented. To improve, ensure data is accurately transcribed and grouped logically.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the logical progression is often interrupted by awkward phrasing and mechanical transitions. For instance, the transition 'All over' is not standard for a summary, and the final sentence, 'However, Adelaide. City has less population...', is fragmented and lacks a clear connection to the preceding points. The use of cohesive devices is somewhat repetitive and occasionally misused, which makes the flow feel disjointed. Improving the use of linking words such as 'in contrast,' 'similarly,' or 'whereas' would help create a smoother, more professional narrative flow.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the precision required for a higher band. You rely on basic verbs like 'bought' and 'went' repeatedly. There are also errors in word choice and form, such as 'brought' instead of 'bought' (a recurring error) and '64 percentage' instead of '64 percent'. The range of vocabulary is limited, and there is little attempt to use more sophisticated or varied terminology to describe trends or comparisons. To reach a higher band, focus on using more precise reporting verbs and nouns, and ensure you are using the correct word forms in context.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The response contains a mix of simple and some attempted complex structures, but grammatical errors are frequent and sometimes impede clarity. There are consistent issues with subject-verb agreement, such as 'Hobart and Sydney was' instead of 'were', and 'Adelaide and Brisbane around 34% people brought' which lacks a verb or preposition. Punctuation is also problematic, particularly the sentence fragment 'However, Adelaide. City has...'. While the meaning is generally understandable, the frequency of these errors prevents the writing from reaching a higher band. Focus on proofreading for basic subject-verb agreement and sentence boundaries.
