Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response attempts to address the task by summarizing the survey data, but it fails to provide a clear overview or accurately report the main features. The description of the data is often confusing and inaccurate, such as stating Melbourne is the 'most one' for cafe visits without clear reference to the actual data points. While some comparisons are attempted, they are poorly supported by the figures provided. The response lacks a clear structure for presenting the three categories (cafe, fresh coffee, instant coffee) across the five cities, leading to a fragmented and incomplete summary of the information. To improve, focus on grouping data logically and ensuring that the figures mentioned are accurate and clearly linked to the specific categories.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organized into paragraphs, but the logical progression of ideas is weak. The use of cohesive devices is often inaccurate or repetitive, such as the frequent use of 'in the other hand' or 'in the other citis'. Referencing is frequently unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow which city or category is being discussed. The transition between sentences is often abrupt, and the lack of clear signposting makes the overall structure feel disjointed. To improve, use a wider range of linking words and ensure that each paragraph has a clear focus, such as dedicating one paragraph to each of the three survey categories.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is limited and contains frequent errors in word choice and spelling, such as 'coffe', 'citis', 'insted', and 'freash'. These errors, combined with awkward phrasing like 'the most one of the onther citis', occasionally impede communication. The range of vocabulary is insufficient to describe the data with precision; for instance, the student uses 'big deffrent' instead of more academic terms like 'significant variation' or 'considerable disparity'. To reach a higher band, you should focus on learning topic-specific vocabulary related to data description (e.g., 'proportion', 'majority', 'trend') and proofreading for basic spelling mistakes.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response relies on simple sentence structures, and there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text. Issues include incorrect verb forms ('the chart is showing'), missing articles, and subject-verb agreement errors ('Adelaide havnt alot of people'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with missing spaces after commas and periods. While the meaning is generally understandable, the high frequency of errors in basic grammar structures significantly impacts the flow and clarity of the writing. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, subject-verb agreement, and the correct use of articles before attempting more complex grammatical structures.
