Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The response covers all parts of the task by identifying the main features and making relevant comparisons across the five cities. You successfully highlighted the trends for cafe visits versus instant and fresh coffee consumption. However, the analysis could be improved by grouping the data more effectively rather than listing city by city. For instance, comparing the cities that share similar trends (like Brisbane and Adelaide) earlier would create a more cohesive overview. The summary is accurate, but ensure that all data points are clearly linked to the specific categories mentioned in the prompt to avoid minor inaccuracies in reporting.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5
The response is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and an overall summary. You use cohesive devices such as 'However', 'Moreover', and 'Nevertheless' to transition between ideas. While the progression is generally clear, some transitions feel slightly mechanical. The paragraphing is appropriate, separating the overview from the detailed city-by-city breakdown. To reach a higher band, focus on using a wider variety of cohesive devices and ensure that the relationship between sentences is more fluid, rather than relying on simple additive connectors.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'illustrates', 'proportion', and 'consume'. There are some minor inaccuracies in word choice, such as using 'addicted' to describe coffee preferences, which is slightly informal and imprecise in this context. You also repeat 'percentage' and 'public' frequently. To improve, try to incorporate more varied synonyms for data-related terms and avoid informal descriptors. The vocabulary is sufficient to convey the meaning clearly, but lacks the precision and flexibility required for higher band scores.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are some grammatical errors, such as '54%of' (missing space) and 'the proportions for people who visit cafes for coffee and the public who bought it are 50%', which is slightly confusing in its phrasing. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. You have a good grasp of basic sentence construction, but you should aim to increase the frequency of error-free complex sentences and ensure punctuation is consistently applied.
