Student answer (Band 6.5)
A survey in five Australia cities about the people's coffee and tea buying and drinking habits result are demonstrated in the chart below. There are variations in the result of each city.
As shown in the graphical representation, we can observe that in Sydney the public brought fresh coffee in last 4 weeks seems to be around 43% where those that instant coffee and went to a cafe or tea in that time are nearby 46% and above 60%. Furthermore, Melbourne shows similar results but slightly increased in instant coffee and those who went to cafe for coffee and tea within the range of 50% and 65%. Additionally, Brisbane and Adelaide clarify fresh coffee under 35% whereas instant coffee in the percentage of 55 and those who went to cafe below 50%. Moreover, the last city survey shows third highest level in particular with fresh coffee above 35%, instant coffee at highest percentage around 54 and those who went to cafe for coffee and tea lies in the percentage approximately 63.
At last, I want to conclude that Sydney public had been preferring fresh coffee whereas for Hobart its instant coffee and for those who went to cafe for coffee or tea result higher in Melbourne than other cities.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response covers all parts of the task by identifying the main features of the survey across the five cities. However, the reporting of data is sometimes imprecise and confusing. For example, phrases like 'nearby 46%' and 'within the range of 50% and 65%' lack the necessary precision for a data-reporting task. While you have attempted to make comparisons, the lack of clarity in linking specific data points to the cities makes it difficult for the reader to follow the trends. To reach a higher band, ensure that data is reported accurately and that the comparisons are clearly linked to the specific categories (fresh coffee, instant coffee, cafe visits).
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Furthermore', 'Additionally', and 'Moreover' to transition between ideas. However, the flow within paragraphs is sometimes mechanical, and the referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the final paragraph where 'the last city survey' is used without naming the city (Hobart). Improving the variety of cohesive devices and ensuring that every reference is explicit will help create a smoother, more professional progression of information.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary used is generally adequate for the task, but it lacks the precision and flexibility required for higher bands. There are several instances of awkward phrasing, such as 'the public brought fresh coffee' (likely meaning 'bought') and 'clarify fresh coffee under 35%'. These errors in word choice and collocation occasionally impede the clarity of the information. To improve, focus on using more precise verbs for data reporting (e.g., 'accounted for', 'represented', 'peaked at') and ensure that your terminology is accurate to the context of the chart.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that affect readability. Issues include subject-verb agreement ('habits result are demonstrated'), article usage ('in five Australia cities'), and awkward sentence construction ('those that instant coffee and went to a cafe'). While these errors do not completely prevent understanding, they are frequent enough to be noticeable. Focusing on proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy and ensuring that your sentence structures are grammatically sound will significantly improve your score.
