Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses the task by identifying the main features of the chart, such as the highest and lowest performing cities. However, the data reporting is inconsistent and lacks precision. For instance, you mention '65% in total buying' and '60% acrose cities', but these figures are not clearly linked to the specific categories or cities in a way that accurately reflects the provided chart. The summary of the data is somewhat confusing, and the comparisons are not fully developed. To improve, ensure that every figure cited is clearly attributed to the correct city and category, and avoid vague descriptions like 'fair a percentage'.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or inaccurate, such as the awkward phrasing 'moreever drinking habits' in the introduction. The progression of ideas is sometimes disjointed, particularly in the transition between the overview and the body paragraphs. While there is an attempt to use linking words like 'In contrast' and 'Furthermore', the logical flow is hindered by grammatical errors and repetitive sentence structures. Improving the variety and accuracy of your linking phrases will help create a smoother, more professional flow.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The range of vocabulary is limited and repetitive. You frequently use basic terms like 'buying', 'percentage', and 'cities'. There are also issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'consistuted fair a percentage' and 'highest went to a cafe'. These errors occasionally make the meaning difficult to follow. To reach a higher band, you should aim to use more precise vocabulary related to data description, such as 'proportion', 'fluctuated', 'accounted for', or 'the majority of'. Additionally, ensure that you are using collocations correctly, such as 'purchasing habits' rather than 'purchasing moreever drinking habits'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains a high frequency of grammatical errors, including issues with subject-verb agreement ('Brisbane consistuted'), punctuation (missing spaces after commas), and word order. While there is an attempt to use complex sentences, these are often marred by errors that impede clarity. For example, 'Melbourne and Hobart recorded highest went to a cafe' is grammatically incorrect. You should focus on mastering basic sentence structures before attempting more complex ones. Pay close attention to verb tenses and ensure that your sentences have a clear subject and predicate to avoid confusion.
