IELTS Writing Task 1 question

The chart below shows the results of a survey about people’s coffee and tea buying and drinking habits in five Australian cities.

Summarize the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

Student answer (Band 7.5)

When surveying people of major cities in Australia, regarding their coffee and tea drinking habits, the survey revealed that most city residents had visited a cafe for coffee or tea in the last month. Hobart and Melbourne had more than 60% of their residents visit a coffee shop while Adelaide had less than 50% do so.

Additionally, comparing fresh coffee and instant coffee purchases showed that all residents across Australia favored the instant coffee option. Sydney's percentages were closely related but Brisbane's gap between instant and fresh coffee was staggering; more than 15% gap. Sydney, along with Melbourne, had the most fresh coffee drinkers across Australia while Brisbane and Adelaide had the least.

It is important to note that Adelaide had more instant coffee drinkers than residents who visited coffee shops. This is unlike the other four cities where coffee shop customers outnumbered the instant coffee drinkers by adequate margins.
