Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response effectively addresses all parts of the task. You have provided a clear overview and selected key features to compare, such as the popularity of café visits versus coffee purchases. The data is accurately reported, and comparisons between cities are well-integrated. To reach a higher band, ensure that all data points are fully utilized; for instance, while you mention Sydney and Melbourne show a similar pattern, providing the specific figures for these cities would strengthen the analysis and provide a more comprehensive summary of the provided chart.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The response is logically organized with a clear progression of ideas. You use paragraphing effectively to separate the overview from the detailed analysis. Cohesive devices such as 'Regarding', 'In terms of', and 'Similarly' are used appropriately to guide the reader through the data. The flow is smooth, and the relationship between the different categories is easy to follow. The structure is coherent throughout, meeting the requirements for a high band score in this criterion.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey information with precision. Phrases like 'recorded the highest figure', 'proportion of people', and 'similar pattern' are used accurately. The vocabulary is natural and appropriate for an academic report. To improve further, try to incorporate a slightly wider variety of synonyms for 'bought' or 'purchased' to avoid repetition, and perhaps use more sophisticated collocations to describe the trends in the data.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The response displays a good mix of simple and complex sentence structures. Your control over grammar is strong, and there are no significant errors that impede communication. Most sentences are error-free, and punctuation is handled correctly. You successfully use comparative structures to contrast the data between cities. To achieve a higher score, you could experiment with more varied complex sentence structures, such as using participle clauses or more advanced subordinating conjunctions to link your observations.
