Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response covers the main features of the survey, identifying trends across the five cities. However, the analysis is somewhat inconsistent. For instance, the overview mentions Melbourne as having the highest number of café visits, but the body paragraph later attributes the highest figure to Sydney (62%). Additionally, the data interpretation is occasionally inaccurate, such as stating Brisbane has the lowest number of people who bought fresh coffee, while the chart shows Adelaide at a similar level. To improve, ensure that the data points cited align precisely with the visual information and that the overview accurately reflects the most significant trends without contradicting the supporting details.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or inaccurate, such as 'Besides this' and 'there Sydney have'. The progression of ideas is sometimes hindered by awkward phrasing, making it difficult to follow the comparison between cities. While there is an attempt to use linking words, they are not always used with sufficient flexibility or precision. To reach a higher band, focus on using a wider variety of cohesive devices more naturally and ensure that referencing between sentences is clear and logical.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but it lacks the precision and range required for a higher score. There are frequent errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'peoples how bought' instead of 'people who bought' and 'in all three condition' instead of 'in all three categories'. The repetition of basic phrases like 'number of individuals' and 'bought fresh coffee' limits the lexical variety. To improve, try to incorporate more precise terminology related to data description, such as 'proportion', 'percentage', or 'figures', and work on using more varied verbs to describe trends.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains a mix of simple and some attempted complex structures, but grammatical accuracy is a significant issue. There are frequent errors in subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'Melbourne highest number', 'Brisbane and Adelaide are have') and sentence construction (e.g., 'there Sydney have the highest number'). These errors are persistent and occasionally make the meaning unclear. While the reader can generally understand the intended message, the frequency of these errors prevents the writing from reaching a higher band. Focusing on basic sentence structure and subject-verb agreement will significantly improve the clarity of your writing.
