Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response covers the main features of the data, such as the percentages for fresh coffee and cafe visits. However, the report is somewhat mechanical and lacks a clear, analytical overview. While you mention the highest and lowest figures in the final paragraph, the summary of the data is fragmented. To improve, ensure you group the data more logically rather than listing percentages city by city. Additionally, the prompt asks for a summary of 'buying and drinking habits,' but your response focuses heavily on percentages without fully synthesizing the trends across the five cities. More careful selection of key features would lead to a more cohesive summary.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay is organized into paragraphs, but the progression of ideas is somewhat repetitive. You rely on simple sentence structures to list data, which makes the flow feel mechanical. Cohesive devices are limited; for example, you use 'While' and 'Overall' to transition, but more varied linking words (e.g., 'in contrast,' 'similarly,' 'whereas') would improve the logical flow. The referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the final sentence where 'give five cities' appears to be a typo for 'these five cities.' Improving the use of referencing and transition signals will help the reader follow your comparisons more easily.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

Your vocabulary is generally adequate to convey the basic information, but it lacks the precision and variety expected for a higher band. You repeat phrases like 'people of' and 'went to the cafe for coffee or tea' multiple times. There are also some awkward collocations, such as 'the purchasing of tea, coffee and drinking habits' and 'most instant and fresh coffee.' To reach a higher band, try to use more sophisticated synonyms and vary your phrasing to avoid repetition. Using words like 'proportion,' 'consumption,' or 'frequented' would demonstrate a stronger command of the language.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains a mix of simple and some attempted complex structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors. Issues include missing articles (e.g., 'Graph displays,' 'in last four weeks'), incorrect preposition usage, and awkward phrasing (e.g., 'The more than fifty-five percent people'). There are also errors in subject-verb agreement and word order. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to distract the reader. Focusing on basic sentence construction, correct article usage, and ensuring subject-verb agreement will significantly improve the clarity and accuracy of your writing.
